'Quite a drop, isn't it?' Sterling is beside her, looking down into the tumbled undergrowth. 'I must admit,' he says dryly, 'that the notion of being my girlfriend has never quite driven a woman to wanting to fling herself off a cliff before.'
She smiles sweetly. 'You should get out more,' she says, and as that gleam lights his eyes again, turns quickly away. 'No, it's my other shoe. It's down there.'

This is all great copy but these two are going around in circles. Soon Natalie's going to get bored and look around for someone to pounce on. And there's only one person. Me, Kate groans inwardly. Fresh bait. And the chances of escaping unnoticed? Zero.
'Well,' she says brightly, and three heads snap round like Rottweilers scenting blood. She sweeps them a smile. 'This has all been very nice but I really must be going.' Swinging the strap of her bag over her shoulder, she heads for the door.
'Where?' In two strides, Sterling intercepts her. 'Where can you possibly have to be, Maudie sweetheart?' His eyes mock her.

Kate (later) defensively to Alex:

Well, it was his fault. He jumped to the wrong conclusion and I…well, I couldn’t tell him who I was and what I was doing there, could I?’

'Oh, I wouldn't say that,' he drawls. 'Some women of my acquaintance would hold that I have a great deal of charm.’

(Girl comes out to drape beach towels over stone balustrade to dry. Stands, hands going to hips, and glares at them – or rather at Kate. Someone calls her. Calls again sharply when she ignores them. With a final dark glower, aimed again at Kate, she swings round and stalks off indoors.)

'I take it she's one of them,' says Kate. 'Poor girl. Never mind. I understand you can get very good treatment nowadays.'

He looks pained. 'I'll have you know I have an army of fans out there.'

She can't help laughing. 'Oh yeah?'

'Yeah.'

Then the most astonishing thing happens. They smile at each other.

I could like him, Kate thinks. He can be high-handed and insufferable but in spite of that, he does have charm, dollops of it. Under different circumstances, if he wasn't gunning for every journalist who comes within ten yards of him, and if my name wasn't mine, we might even be friends.

PITCH - They're like family to her, but when murder is suspected a PR exec must decide how far to go to protect them. They all have a motive. Especially the dead woman's husband. The man she's always loved.

Opening Lines -
As the song fades, she hears the footsteps behind her. She doesn't rise from the lounger or look round. Just rolls her eyes and takes another gulp of wine, fixing her gaze ahead. Beyond the villa's perimeter wall where the wooded slopes fall away, the sea glimmers under the silver coin of a moon.
'I told you to leave,' she says, her voice slurred. 'It's over. There's nothing more to say.'
'I have plenty to say.'
Her head whips round then. She smiles.

Snippet - 'When she died,' Olympia says in a hard voice, 'I was relieved. All I could think was, we're free of her now. Now we can begin to be happy.'

From family snaps of Kris, Listy had known what to expect, of course. What she didn't expect was the startled lurch as her eyes met his, the catch in her breath. He had merely dropped his gaze to his brother asleep with his head in Listy's lap.
