I'm on the last road trip of my teen's baseball season, in an unusually nice hotel room (compared to the usual shitty room on the side of a highway). Beside a lake! He slept through the godawful loud coffee maker. So tell me, what do you think of WHEN THE MOON HATCHED? I have thoughts...
I'll be a podcast guest this morning for the first time in a long time, and like most these days, there will be video. This setup is held together with cardboard, clamps, and thick books 😂
The Globe's explanation for why comments are closed on @marshalederman.bsky.social's column about the war, and indeed on every story about the Middle East, sure is a commentary on our society in this moment.
For a couple minutes at a stretch, it is, on and off, doing what I can only describe, in a very Vancouver way, as raining snow.
A few years ago my family went to Nova Scotia for a friend's wedding. We went Full Tourist, including taking a sail on the Bluenose II. During that gorgeous adventure, I became obsessed after learning that the massive sails had been made by a local sailmaker.
These 8 nights I will gaze on the beauty of these lights shining out into the darkness as I commit and recommit to being who I am without hiding and to doing whatever I can to ensure that every single person can do the same, in safety, while being fully seen and accepted and loved. Happy Hanukkah 🕎
Went out with girlfriends for dinner last night. Our server came by just as I learned they didn't know about Heated Rivalry and I got to beckon them close so I could delight them. He joined right in and made a note to himself. Absolute golden moment.
From what I understand, the paperback is sold out everywhere. Which continues this bit as a publishing story. WHY is this book sold out everywhere? I have some ideas.
It's a story of how this is a Canadian-made series that was only picked up for international distribution after the trailer went bonkers in Oct. & fans everywhere started screaming for the show. Two days after the first two episodes dropped, HEATED RIVALRY was the #1 Kindle book on Amazon. AND
This is a game-changer, especially while I'm home for a couple days by myself, with strict orders not to bear any weight whatsoever on my possibly broken foot. With crutches, you can't carry anything!
So, once more I'm home from our summer holiday a few days before the rest of my family. This time because I may have broken my foot 🙄 Hopefully a CT is in my near future to confirm or deny. I left rural BC in an air cast, with crutches. And my god are crutches the absolute worst. So...
Never not dramatic, I guess, now we're back to: Did I actually break my foot? CT will tell, hopefully within a few days. For now, we're all laughing at how dreadfully ungraceful I am 🦶
This is the manic look of a publisher whose startup press's 5th book is a @theglobeandmail.com bestseller on the holiday weekend, and who just bought 6 copies of the paper and who can't stop smiling. Congratulations, @longwayhomestead.bsky.social!!!
Last year my kid was on a truly magical baseball team that won the Western Canadian championship for their division, and last night they were featured at a @vancanadians.bsky.social game on a night celebrating the league they play in. It was the best kind of reunion and my heart is full ❤️⚾️🌅
On a day that started with errands followed by a teen baseball double header, I managed to spend a few minutes at @bookwarehouse.bsky.social on Main for Indie Bookstore Day, and it was glorious. I scored a mystery book and I'm excited to read it! #cibd2025
Waited in line for an hour to vote at the Dunbar Community Centre, where 1200 people have already voted today. Poll worker said for the last by-election maybe twenty people had voted by this time of day. Way to exercise democracy, Vancouver! #VancouverElection
Today I will work on 2nd round edits of @longwayhomestead.bsky.social's book about the supply chain of Canadian wool, speak on the record with an old friend writing for a US-based trade publication about tariffs, and contemplate the timing of having bought a used car yesterday of all days 🤨
Look America has its problems but it also has fountain Dr Pepper and that is a truly beautiful thing don't @ me
