Develops medical laboratory software. Emphasis on medical billing. Former Treasury VP (risk mgmt stuff) at ridiculously global bank, gave that up when I figured out they ignored risk management.
Meadow rue. The classic habitat, which I got to see once, before the deer started to eat it, is in a dark forest by a babbling brook. The bright white flowers are like nothing on Earth. It’s like stumbling into a fairy land.
The chance June 2 was the peak for the year is getting stronger. It's that red six in the below.
Fireflies!!! Last year they were out in June, which was earlier than normal. But this year they waited until July, as God intended. Below, a weed I can’t recommend enough, American Germander. Deer won’t touch it, and hummingbirds love it.
The bond market is gradually pricing AI hyperscalers at a discount to the rest of the corporate bond market. Via Almost Daily Grant's:
It was a desperate gamble to prevent Vicksburg from making the defeat of the South inevitable. By losing both on July 4, 1863, the South lost the war. That should have ended it, but Davis and Lee were dead enders, and sacrificed tens of thousands more men on a hopeless war. Sherman's verdict:
That’s something. No, I don’t keep the a/c at 71. This is right by the register.
No trend lines, nothing. Just the raw data. Today is the kind of day when I quote Mark Twain's intro to Huckleberry Finn:
There should never have been a way for these two to be related.
For those not familiar, the Empire State Building is in there, at 34th just a little ways in from Fifth Ave. It's not just a tourist attraction, there are a fuckton of businesses in there. The GDP of that building alone probably is higher than most cities in the US.
Also, as I noted before, what is oddball behavior in normal times becomes normal when you're in bubble territory. Thus COR3M, which measures the correlation of stock prices to each other, tends towards zero in good and 100 in bad times. It's still way below normal. Long way to go get back there.
From Almost Daily Grant's. It does appear the SpaceX IPO is draining money out of crypto. I guess there really is only so much sucker, I mean speculative, money out there.
*****Chef's kiss***** (as seen on Reddit) Margin Call started with them firing the risk manager. This is the functional market equivalent.
Market's been up 8 days in a row. Last time that happened? Just last month, as a matter of fact. Last time before that? Well, I went as far as 2022 before stopping, so sometime way back in the misty mists of time.
Stock market stat of the week: COR3M, which measures the correlation among stocks, is below 10. This tends towards 0 in good times, and 100 in bad times. These are very good times indeed. So good the only other time it was below 10 was for a stretch of days in 2024.
Strait's still closed. Number of ships going through was trending towards normal, but not for now anyway.
Went out to the fenced in piece of the yard where I crowd in all of the plants I want to protect from the deer, which is everything, because they eat everything, and cut some peonies. Watched this one open as I ate dinner. Fascinating. It was closed when I started, and open when I finished.
Department of further comment would be superfluous. This is a sum of advancers - decliners for the previous 21 days, and then the resulting number graphed for the past 21 days.
