Finally left #DWCon when the hotel was starting to look empty, and of course there's now a big incident on the M6 with delays of over an hour showing. But at least it was a good excuse to stop at the services and have an ice cream by the lake while it hopefully clears.
It's #DWCon time again! As Terry used to say, Discworld Convention time is it's own bubble so we all just restart our conversations where we left off last time. 30 years ago seems just like last week...
Heh. I suppose I should have included some idea of the books I'm already thinking of including...
My parents came for a brief visit and brought me even *more* cherries, and I had ricotta in the fridge, so fancy pie happened. (It would have looked even prettier if I hadn't dropped it taking it out of the tin, but it still tastes great)
Here's the cover of my upcoming edited book, since it didn't show up on the preview in my last post... #FanStudies #DesignResearch
I went for an evening walk, and found that the community orchard round the corner from my house is in full bloom! Going to be a good year for apples I think...
Ahhh, it's today! If you've never read 17776 (or even if you have), today is the perfect day to read one of my favourite pieces of storytelling ever. No, it's not about football. www.sbnation.com/a/17776-foot...
Went out to plant some trees this morning (with permission, in a community-owned wood) for Tu B'shvat! (new year for trees)
Fortuitous timeline arrangement. @lancasteruni.bsky.social #InternationalUnsolicitedDuckPicDay
Happy Chanukah everyone! Nice that the final night lines up with the solstice this year, we're ushering the light back in.
It's time for another batch of 'books i've particularly enjoyed reading recently', and this lot all happen to be folks I follow here! @jonnelledge.bsky.social @annaleen.bsky.social @oliverklangmead.bsky.social @eddierobson.bsky.social @tkingfisher.com
Went to a lovely thanksgiving thing this evening, organised by an American friend, where everyone was given responsibility for bringing different dishes. I think it went quite well.
Look at this beautiful thing which has arrived from @skeuomorphpress.org! I have used this Ursula K. Le Guin essay in my teaching for several years now and I love creative things done with books and craft so it delights me on multiple levels.
I saw your mention of it before getting dressed, then completely forgot, but despite that ended up as a leek regardless.
What to do on lazy Sunday morning when you have leftover creme fraiche and lots of mushrooms in the fridge? Make fresh pasta from scratch, of course. Not bad for only my second go with this pasta machine!
I'm not conscientious enough to post/review every book I read, but here are some I've particularly enjoyed over the past few months (as I clear out my 'recently read' shelf to the main bookcases). (Deleted and reposted because I made a typo *and* missed one of the books in the alt text)
Really great afternoon meeting with the brilliant design professionals on the new Advisory Board for our Design courses, and now getting to enjoy all the fantastic student work at the LICA Festival!
