Lagan Valley Greens
@laganvalleygreens
Lagan Valley Greens constituency group of Green Party Northern Ireland.
1/ 40 years of fly-tipping in the Lagan and ten years of political silence. The second the cameras show up, Alliance and the UUP can’t wait to talk.
Days like this shows what people power looks like: local people turning up, doing the work, & refusing to wait for permission. We’ll keep working with groups like Lagan Lifters, and keep pushing politicians who’ve had the power to sort this for years, to finally match our effort with theirs. 4/5
This isn’t one bad afternoon of littering. It’s years of neglect, and it shows exactly why we’ve been pushing for a proper, full clean-up of the Lagan, not just the removal of one vehicle. 3/5
With water levels still low, the scale of the problem is impossible to miss. In just one stretch of riverbank we saw prams, bikes, shopping trolleys and sheets of metal - in addition to the car that’s been sitting there for decades. 2/5
Getting our hands dirty for the Lagan. Huge thanks to Robyn-Louise Chambers & Lagan Lifters for organising Sunday’s clean-up along the towpath, right in the stretch where the dumped car sits. Six of our Lagan Valley Greens members were among the 14 volunteers who turned out to get stuck in. 1/5
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who signed the petition, shared our posts, and spoke up for the River Lagan. Your support has helped turn a long-ignored problem into a live issue that people can no longer brush aside. 1/3
1/ There’s a car rotting in the River Lagan just 10 minutes’ walk from the council chamber - and nobody will take responsibility for removing it. www.greenpartyni.org/remove_the_a...

Can’t believe we have to state this again on Human Rights Day, but if Sinn Fein and Alliance are listening - trans rights are human rights.
Everyone deserves dignity, equality, and freedom. Human rights are universal — no exceptions. For @greenpartyni.bsky.social, human rights go beyond borders: 1/4
🌍 2024 has been a challenging year. The climate crisis threatens our communities, with the most vulnerable bearing the heaviest burden. However our determination remains unshaken.
Full respect to emergency services today. I’m so grateful. 🏆👏
🚨 It’s wild windy! 🌬️ If you need to report any problems near you, here are the emergency contact numbers. Stay safe!‼️
🚨 Biodiversity in Northern Ireland is plummeting: - 12% of species face extinction. - Farmland birds: ⬇️ 43% since 1996. - Flowering plants: ⬇️ 14% since 1970. - Pollinators: ⬇️ 18%. Ranked 12th WORST GLOBALLY for biodiversity loss, it’s time to demand action. Nature can’t wait. greenpartyni.org/join
🏘️ We’re fighting for communities that put people first. Planning should prioritise affordable housing, green spaces, and cleaner neighbourhoods—not developers’ bottom lines. It’s time to make local needs the heart of every decision. 🌍 #FairCommunities #GreenSolutions
Cleaner air, safer streets, & healthier lives are within reach if we prioritise sustainable transport. By funding public transport instead of pollution, we can reduce costs, connect communities, & create greener future. Sustainable travel isn’t just good for the planet—it saves lives and money too!

GPNI members tramping the streets of north Dublin in support of southern colleague Neasa Hourigan TD. Great day out in winter sunshine! ☀️ Great to meet and talk to so many people who appreciate what the Greens have been able to accomplish in government. All the best on Friday Ireland’s Greens! 🤞
🚶♀️🚴 Safer streets mean a greener, cleaner, and healthier society. We’ll invest in protected cycle lanes, better pavements, and traffic calming to make walking and cycling the easy, fairer choice for everyone, from children to commuters. #SaferStreets
Carers are the lifeblood of our communities, often sacrificing their own wellbeing to support others. Green Party NI is committed to proper financial recognition, better respite services, and stronger support networks for unpaid carers. It’s time we truly value their vital work. #CarersRights
Imagine an economy where success is measured by wellbeing, not just profit. Green Party NI fights for a system that puts people and the planet first. Let’s build a society that values mental, physical, and environmental health over growth for its own sake.
♿ Health services should be accessible to everyone. We advocate for equal access to healthcare for people with disabilities across Northern Ireland. 🩺 Accessibility in healthcare isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Join us in the fight for equal health access! www.greenpartyni.org/join

💚 Mental health is health. We’re pushing for more funding and support for mental health services, especially for youth and community-based care. 🧠 Good mental health resources strengthen individuals and communities. Let’s break the stigma and prioritise mental wellness. @greenpartyni.bsky.social
Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Green Party NI opposes privatisation of the NHS. We envision a system that’s free at the point of use, publicly funded, and accessible to all. The NHS should serve people, not profits. Everyone deserves high-quality care. @greenpartyni.bsky.social
