A couple of decent moffs from this morning's haul a Scarce bordered Straw and my second Ethmia bipunctella of the year

Ethmia bipunctella the first at my trap for several years now, a mostly coastal species in Suffolk

Gianno (The Hood) Infantina with the latest World Cup, to be rolled out next year, it's 24 carat gold, honest

Although I've never seen the adult Cosmopterix zieglerella, a nationally scarce b moth there is still plenty of proof that they still exist in the Deben Lodge area of Falkenham/Felixstowe as the leaf mines on Hop (Humulus lupulus) are very distinctive

Landguard bird Observatory this morning little bird wise but it was pleasing to see 2 of the 3 Spurge Hawkmoths and best a Striped Hawkmoth. At Marsh Lane Felixstowe 3 Southern migrant Hawkers were patrolling along the track with 1 Brown Hawker 1 Southern Hawker and several Ruddy Darters seen

News that the 2 Black Storks were still at Hemley this morning a message i found irresistible so got there and 1 showed distantly in a muddy creek before taking off joining the 2nd bird before gaining height and crossing the River Deben

A Marbled Clover was new for my trap today

Not had Ethmia quadrillella for several years now so it was pleasing to see it again this morning in me trap a Nationally scarce B moth

As my better half was needing a hair trim at her Daughter's in Ipswich I decided to look at Pipers Vale for Brown Hairstreak but it being overcast i tried Landseer Park, Ipswich and got a pristine female on some Blackthorn bushes there whatever the provenance they are my favorite butterfly

OK I cracked this morning with a new species of bird for me less than 25 minutes from home and a county tick to boot. It was great to see a good many Suffolk friends that I rarely bump into due to my mostly patch birding these days around the Felixstowe Peninsula 👍 a pic of the Hudsonian Godwit

Having a look around the Apple Ermine tents at Felixstowe Ferry I'm coming to the conclusion that they are looking to establish themselves 🤪

My first Dewicks Plusia in over 9 years of trapping considering I'm not too far from Landguard also Eudemis Profundana a more regular micro plus the Painted Lady caterpillar still munching its way through the mega tough Scotch Thistle leaves

Soz about the poor image but this Vitula biviella is only my second ever it got away when I tried to get a pic later first seen in Kent in 1997 it spread to Suffolk in 2006 and is established along the coastal belt now

Managed to see at least 5 White letter Hairstreaks this morning in Walton Avenue Felixstowe opposite Lidl behind the Open Reach compound they seem to using a tall Hawthorn as a master tree although it has Elms either side but these are not as tall as the Hawthorn WLH not coming down to brambles

A little venture onto Peewit Hill Felixstowe this morning gave me a new moff for the site in the form of a mating pair of Six Belted Clearwing plus 20+ Burnet moths mostly Narrow bordered five spot but some were too mobile to be certain they weren't Six spot Burnet moths

A wander around Felixstowe Ferry this morning in what felt like tropical humidity despite that a good number of Narrow bordered Five spot Burnet moths were out, 30+ Essex Skippers and 5 Painted Lady surprisingly no Hummingbird Hawkmoth were seen

Yesterday at Felixstowe Ferry I saw several hundred Firebugs on the seawall footpath behind the closed Victoria pub never seen so many

@neilsmothman.bsky.social seems that every Apple Tree at Felixstowe Ferry has Ermine moth tents so am I right in assuming they are Apple Ermine, a couple of pics to maybe confirm

A hobble around Peewit Hill produced very little but managed to see a Narrow bordered five spot Burnet caterpillar back home Russell Crow and his mate seemingly only to have fledged 1 chick from in the Port of Felixstowe

Still got a few micro's to sort out but this Privet Hawkmoth was a first for me trap ever and these 2 Cream spot Tigers were a bonus

As all previous sightings of Holly Blue along Viewpoint Road Felixstowe have been of flybys it was good to have this egglaying female stop long enough to get a couple of pics

Me broken ankle still on the mend so not going far but a nfy Green Hairstreak was welcome only other butterflies were 6 Small White with a single Holly Blue also 4 Swifts over and 4 House Martins

Probably yesterday's juvenile Goldfinch gave me a look again today sitting on the patio furniture

Still got me foot up but rather pleasantly I managed to get pics of the pair of Blue Tits that are using my nest box enough to eventually read the numbers and both were ringed at Landguard Bird Observatory the male in June and the female in August of last year both juvenile birds

Nice of this Common Whitethroat to give me look whilst my ankle is still healing also a pair of Blue Tits has taken up residence, well nest building anyway 😀 both birds are ringed so probably have visited the nearby Landguard Bird Observatory

Before and after pics🤣, only a week to go before me cast is due to come off and hopefully won't be too long before I can drive and get out birding again

Obviously an act of sheer vandalism has taken place at Levington Creek in Suffolk where the new fencing wire has been cut in 4 places this fencing was to protect the habitats there
