Thought ODYSSEY was great, hell of an achievement. Lots of practical: ships, water, forced perspective, real crowds. Cyclops was a terrifying monster movie in itself. Circe, unexpected & wonderfully discomfiting. Climax would only gain power from less frenetic edit but, all in all, this was a MOVIE.

Scheming homicidal IRS agent Don Porter changes disguise in “Murder is a Taxing Affair” HAWAII FIVE-0. Neo-noir entanglements of greedy everyday characters make this one darkly delicious. Porter is great & Jack Dodson & Sally Kirkland are genuine & affecting as tourist couple who make a bad decision

For years MURDER BY THE CLOCK (1931) was one of those Paramount precode mystery/horror films that fans thought would never see light of day beyond battered prints. Now it’s coming on Blu-ray from @kinolorber.com. Gives hope for TERROR ABOARD & MENACE. No release date yet, but will spread the word.

I liken the process of the horror script I’m writing to walking down a dark corridor lined with doorways offering directions that lean towards a here’s-how-movies-go course of action, a familiar trope, a stock movie climax. So far I've managed to veer away from temptation in favor of the unexpected.

Sam Neill gives a truly “committed” performance in IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS. Happened to revisit this recently same time I caught his fine work in MY BRILLIANT CAREER. & JURASSIC PARK 3 is my favorite of that franchise, far more contained than its brethren. Neill always seemed to give his all. RIP

Bo Hopkins, Barbara Baxley, Slim Pickens plan stuff in HAWAII FIVE-0 “One Big Happy Family.” Frikkin’ nuts. Family hits 26 states, robs small takes but racks up insane 150 murders. As McGarrett (Jack Lord) puts it, “If I saw that movie, I’d walk out in the middle.” Fam's excuse? “They weren’t kin.”

One of my favorite movies, which I confirmed once again in a recent viewing. When is some physical media company going to give this thing a new, and much-deserved, life?

Axel (Brian Howe) embraces Dave (Ed Yopchick) but not in a good way, during Axel’s colorful but disturbing monologue that finally reveals his extremely dangerous nature. It’s remarkable to compare how initially hilarious Brian was with the scary figure eventually revealed. From my play JUMP CAMP.

Lorraine Bouddreau (Maryann Bergonzi) & Dave Tohey (Ed Yopchick) get to hear “The Story of Jump Camp” where Royd (Kevin Belanger) stiffly declaims the town’s sad, bizarre, but made-up, history while Okus (Mark S. Cartier) acts out something completely unrelated. Kind of a surrealist comedy team.

As Pointy Pointers, the late Michael Goodson was an audience favorite, rushing in with latest town gossip about people who don’t exist. At his audition I commented that I liked the “loose-mouthed” thing he affected. Michael, from Alabama, wasted not a beat. “Oh, that’s a hooper. Call that a hooper.”

The Holding Coat (Robert Deveau) & Dr. Lorraine Bouddreau (Maryann Bergonzi) engage in a philosophical discussion that's oddly riddle-based. His character is the most elusive, pretty much a pariah, leading Lorraine to suspect he may be missing psychiatrist Dr. Lever Pershing. From my play JUMP CAMP.

A blur of action at the climax of my play JUMP CAMP as Finney (Donna Asali) takes on Axel (Brian Howe) & Diesel (Bill Saunders), like a samurai-like avenger, wielding her trusty cane in a carefully choreographed fight. This cathartic overthrow of evil promising a new era to the suppressed town.

Red Sox sweep Yankees in four, with Sonny Gray doing a sterling job (really, he deserved the win). Hope springs eternal, as we Sox fans are known to say, right to the bitter end… Meanwhile, not too many know that I managed a Double-A ballclub for a while…

Close to finishing horror script unlike anything I’ve written which sounds exactly like what every writer says. Because our latest is OUR BABY. Yet, with multiple layers, dreamlike mood, strong female protagonist & metaphor that must be from my subconscious on overdrive, I could not be more excited.

Donna Asali “raising cane” as the indomitable Finney Stickes, Jump Camp’s hope for a matriarchal society. A glorious performance-like someone playing King Lear, Mrs. Lovett & Norma Desmond all in one show. Comedic one moment, terrifying the next. Extraordinary piece of work. From my play JUMP CAMP.
