When the unwind-Bank-safety stuff started in 2021, the taxi orgs rallied to "game" or "pack" the consultation responses. City officers saw what was happening and reweighted the responses. Officers may try again now, but Aldermen ain't listening, alas. Soft-Tories are keen to unwind scheme.

The vision: bring the fun back
Opportunity Kensington is working to make Kensington High Street more lively, welcoming and enjoyable. The high street has all the ingredients of a world-class location, but its full potential as a distinctive and thriving visitor destination remains untapped.

Bringing the fun back to Kensington High Street is about continuing to promote exciting new events, revitalising public spaces, extending activity into the evening and night-time, and a shift from convenience to choice.

The long-term aim is for Kensington High Street and its surroundings to become greener and better designed for people to spend time in, including exploring ways to reduce the impact of traffic on the high street.

1. High Street planters
The planter installation outside Ecco forms part of the wider High Street Kensington Planters Programme. This initiative will contribute to creating a more welcoming, attractive, and environmentally enriched streetscape, supporting the broader objectives to improve pedestrian experience and strengthen the character of the high street.

7. Junction improvements and pavement widening
This project seeks to review the Kensington High Street to Kensington Church Street junction to identify opportunities to create a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

It would involve the removal of unnecessary street furniture and widening the pavements going north and east from the junction, where they are currently most constrained. Enhanced pedestrian crossings, including a new potential crossing aligned with the Whole Foods Market entrance would also be explored.

11. Several individual schools have seen encouraging changes in travel
behaviour. Furzedown Primary School, SW17 (Furzedown), which achieved
Gold accreditation, has seen pupil car use decrease from 13% in 2014 to 3%
in 2015. Brandlehow Primary School, SW15 (Thamesfield) (Bronze
accreditation) has seen pupil car use down from 16% in 2014 to 10% in 2015
and Burntwood Academy SW17 (Earlsfield) (Silver accreditation) has seen
pupil car use down from 17% to 13%.
12. 2,576 pupils reported that they usually travel to school by scooter. This is 10%
of all the pupils that took part in the survey, maintaining the level of scootering
reported in 2014. The Council works with an external supplier to provide
scooter training, so that pupils are given the skills to scoot to school
responsibly and safely. In 2014/15 school year, scooter training (for children
aged 4 – 7 using push along scooters) was delivered at 31 schools.
