Ok last week I tried Sonic Heroes and I mostly had fun but holy shit There's a lot of technical bullshit like square is both the light dash for rings and the insta "fuck you" that sends you flying over stage, risking that if you want to light dash and you miss the absurdly small ring hitbox you die

As shown in the series, the gems can still live and regenerate as long as their gem is intact, but their new forms have noticeable changes, specially the ones who recovered after corruption They're scarred, but they can learn to overcome and live with it
Someone compared the abstraction with the corrupted gems from Steven Universe and I think it's a cool concept considering how SU handles the effects of trauma and scars (+)
