Our volunteers have erected a new post on the #LondonLoop near Banstead station (with golf club permission) where the route leaves the course and it wasn’t previously clear where to go. They also reinstated another post and did clearance work, mainly on the station link. Huge thanks to them all!
30+ volunteers came to our annual project meeting & celebrated our 2025/26 Annual Report (online soon) this evening. We talked about: auditing the #GreenChainWalk for its 50th anniversary next year; litter -picking on our routes; station signage on the #CapitalRing; & stiles on the #LondonLoop
New posts post! Our #LondonLoop and #CapitalRing project now has new stocks of posts to instal where we can get the permission / find means. Thanks to volunteers Keith and Jo for storing them in sheds and garages (north and south London stocks!) and to #Ramblers and LDWA London Group for funding.
Volunteers installed 2 new posts on the #LondonLoop earlier this week - one in the Addington Hills adjoining the viewpoint, where previous one had disappeared - and the other in the nearby woods where existing one had rotted.
Great to see the #CapitalRing and #GreenChainWalk getting some love from TfL in The Metro yesterday. It’s a brilliant time of year to get out and explore London on foot!
#LondonLoop volunteers Alan and Neil were recently out on Section 9. Neil is an award-winning litter picker honoured with Environment Champion award. They reported remarkably little litter except for a buildup towards the end of the section along the A30 towards Hatton Cross. Thank you both!
Huge thanks to volunteers Keith and George who installed another post today off Bogey Lane on Section 3 of the #LondonLoop - as well as fitting discs to the newish support rail alongside the steps up to the field alongside the lane. The route just got a little bit easier for everyone to follow!
Pleased to hear from a group who walked it on Friday that the riverside route of the #CapitalRing Section 15 is open again! Repairs to the King George V lock gates are finished & they were able to complete the #CapitalRing via the riverside route. Northern foot tunnel lift still out of order tho’.
Ramblers volunteers made more improvements to the #LondonLoop recently - 2 new posts added on Section 4 in the Addington Hills making it easier to navigate. They were funded by Inner London Ramblers, South Bank Ramblers and the London LDWA group. Thanks to all involved.
Pleased to share that our volunteers' persistence has resulted in Bexley Council installing these handrails on both sides of the flight of steps from Hall Place in Bexley up to the A2 on Section 1 of the #LondonLoop. You can see what it looked like in 2024 in the 2nd photo. Thanks to all involved!
Happy new year from the team behind the Ramblers #LondonLoop #CapitalRing and #GreenChainWalk project - we’re looking forward to continuing our work as volunteers, making improvements to waymarking, keeping route guidance up to date & highlighting diversions etc. in 2026.
Our volunteers have worked with Croydon Council to get some new signage installed / replaced / fixed on Section 4 of the #LondonLoop - and to add waymark discs to new posts from our stocks. Great to see these newly installed posts and signs in place making the route easier for everyone to follow.

One of the really simple things our volunteer team do to improve the #LondonLoop (and the other routes we’ve adopted) is cleaning filthy waymark posts. This one at the start of Section 21 probably had 20 years of grime on it until Chris gave it a clean - and what an amazing difference he’s made!
The Abbey Road Footbridge Mural between Thamesmead and Lesnes Abbey on the #GreenChainWalk today - it’s had a good innings but could do with a little love now.

Delighted to share that our #LondonLoop project volunteers have completed key signage works on Section 2 at Footscray Meadows working the Friends group and Thames 21 who reinstalled 2 posts & added 2 new ones, to which we then affixed waymark discs. We also replaced the pointer on an existing sign.

The new issue of @ramblers.org.uk volunteers-produced South East Walker magazine is out now including our quarterly project update and successes such as getting some new posts installed on the #LondonLoop and #CapitalRing. We also publish it in the Ramblers Inner London Area website.

Sometimes we have to improvise! Thanks to our volunteer who came up with this ingenious solution on Section 22 of the #LondonLoop - no post to add a disc to, but that can be solved with some scrap wood, four drill holes and a couple of plastic ties. & no damage to anyone else's property!
Thanks to the Cranford Park Project Officer & the site team who have added more signs and stickers (from our supplies I think) to make the #LondonLoop easier to follow in the middle section of the park - & thank you too for sharing your photos with us!
Always depressing when waymarks get vandalised even when they are so bleached out as to be barely legible. We’ve been able to add #LondonLoop stickers to these for now but hope to get them properly replaced (they’re supposed to also sign the Thames Down Link & Hogsmill River Walk) in Kingston.
Our brilliant volunteers were able to get new posts installed on the #CapitalRing in Abney Park Cemetery recently after the previous waymarkers were removed during renovations. Our section volunteers & coordinator worked with the park manager, to whom huge thanks, to have the new posts installed.
Our team of Capital Ring Rangers have updated our #CapitalRing walks guidance & the new updated PDFs are free for download innerlondonramblers.org.uk/index.php?op... All sections except 13 required some revision, which goes to show the degree of change on the ground. Thanks to all the volunteers!
Waymarking improvements to Section 2 of the #LondonLoop have recently been completed. These include adding new posts and discs to make the route easier to follow, but also amending the route uphill a little onto slightly higher ground to avoid the worst of the mud.
Introducing a brand new waymark post on the #LondonLoop - plus an old post with new discs as we re-route slightly through Petts Wood to slightly higher drier ground and incorporating the memorials. More to come!
