All for art and art for all. Music, films, resistance, culture, books, travel and happy to be part of the industry of human happiness. Y’know, the good stuff in life that doesn’t attract bad people.
Without saying your age, what is your fave film from the year you turned 18…
Normally a modern art type, but it’s hard not to love a Caravaggio - even when it’s copied onto a wall. This one just outside the church where the original is (which turned out to be closed…).
Lovely little feller - Italian green wall lizard - hanging out in the sublime ruins of Neapolis today.
In Sicily - The Greek theatre holding up remarkably well after two and a bit thousand years. They knew how to do a view too.
Dolce and Gabbana apparently. Nice but bet neither of them have ridden it.
Ten hours on a sleeper and finally made it to Sicily - Etna still smoking away, but considerably calmer. A day of wine, sun and nothingness ahead. Ciao!
So no trip to Sicily today - sitting in Bristol instead. Rebooked for tomorrow to Napoli then a ferry down the coast to get there. Turning into quite to a bit of an adventure. Bloody volcanoes - what’s the point of them !
This record, everything it introduced me to, that woman’s jumper and haircut on the sleeve, a lifetime of going down deeper soul related rabbit holes, the scratches and clicks - it was America to me for so long.
Nice Jazz Festival, a brilliant event, cut down to 3 days this year. Not the biggest deal in the scheme of things, but it’s completely down to the newly elected far-right mayor having ‘other priorities’ - the right are threatened when people come together and enjoy themselves.
Looks good - but they missed one of Europe’s key progressive policies.
Is it just coincidence that the Russians have never invaded Sheffield ? I think not.
I do love a good company sleeve - how they survive this long is a secret lost to time.
About the same time as Don and the boys became Mount Rushmore - Charly Records responsible for introducing me to swathes of good music, but not to good graphic design.
Guessing he didn’t get a supervised visit with the kids this weekend? And why is he holding a tap?
I was so excited when I got to see his actual guitar - just stared at it for about 30 minutes.
Still there - London Underground poster for Psycho in abandoned tunnel under Euston.
Ah damn you - I only have this one and now you’ve reminded me I’m just going to need more…
More mid C20th Italian literature dressed up as a pulp. Suspect it’s more existential angst and dying of syphilis alone than the cover suggests.
Continuing my current mid-C20th Italian literature rabbit hole. Apparently not the best translation but absolutely the best cover so far. Il Ragazzi was a better title tho.
Bristol people - free film screenings at St Anne’s House this weekend. Last Rites was a phenomenal piece of theatre when it was at the Old Vic. This is Bristol at its very best. Go along!
Scarlet tiger moth hitching a ride on the rear wing of my car today.
At least the postman still cheers me up on days like these. Been after this Joe Orton adjacent belter for some time.
Get off the fucking fence Guardian. They’re not protestors, they’re angry Farage/Yaxley-Lennon enraged racists who went there for a ruck and got one. Call it out for what it is.
Always assumed George was German? But this is truly one of our four bears
