A report on the ground from the ICE shooting in Biddeford that should make every parent in this country lose their minds:

Cecelia Humiston, 22, lives on Chapel Street. She was asleep with her two-year-old son when she woke up to the sounds of a commotion on surrounding streets.

When she went to investigate, she saw what appeared to be a person lying on the ground on Pool Street.

She remembers hearing an older woman with a distressed family, yelling, “You took her dad, you took her dad!”

“They were with a little girl, she couldn't have been older than three,” Humiston said. “She was still in her Bluey pajamas.”

Humiston described law enforcement as “rude,” and said they barricaded family’s car from leaving. Another yelled at the little girl, who was trying to smell flowers.

Delaney Hall is a private detention facility, run by a for-profit company, providing zero transparency.
I'm going to keep working with families and advocates to demand answers.
I'll keep working with State Police and law enforcement to keep all New Jersey residents safe.
I'm continuing to take every action available to get the Department of Health inside the facility to do a full inspection.
And I'll keep pushing to see Delaney Hall closed.

Mehlhorn was also the rare political operative who did not mind making enemies—or opposing liberal causes, such as voting-rights reform in 2021, which he fought because he thought that it would distract from economic issues important to voters and lacked a path to becoming law. I spoke with one of Mehlhorn’s admiring colleagues, who requested anonymity to speak frankly and described him as “an asshole to a bunch of people who never have people tell them hard things.” Other Democratic strategists who know Mehlhorn were less admiring. Several declined to comment, because they did not share his eagerness to fight with allies. Others remain scarred by public and private feuds with him over strategy, experiences that Mehlhorn acknowledges as “bullying my own allies.”
