This year, I am out and open for all who can't due to the risk of losing jobs, housing, friends and families, and their lives. I will continue to work to make this state, this country, this world a better and safer place for trans people. I will be a voice. I will be me.

This year's Holiday card

I got banned a second time for being trans in the military,
legally changed my name, had a chapter in a book of trans military members, left the Army, and started a fellowship in
pediatric endocrinology back home in Louisville, KY.
I also fulfilled a dream and adopted a dog,
a monster named BeAR and got my fourth tattoo.
This past month has been challenging with my Dad in and out of the hospital, and a car accident this past week, showing me the ups and downs of life. However, as I think about next year, I have the hope and foundations for a bright 2026,
and a velcro dog who is always demanding of pets.

In Residency on night shifts sometimes I would stand in the quiet of “The President’s Hospital”, reflecting on the U.S. Army values. I joined the Army because I believed in those values and I still do. I left the Army, in part, because I saw leaders who could not uphold those values.

Now on the annual medical survey. This pic will be a sign in the future of the awful discrimination of trans people in the military. Tell the truth and get kicked out for being yourself. Lie and get saddled with guilt and fear for being found out, simply because you wish to continue your service.
