Brilliant - the Irish times interview with william Dalrymple - really excellent read and includes this nugget, this gem of a review for the risible Michael Goves latest’ effort’

Last year Michael Gove, the former British cabinet minister and now editor of the Spectator magazine, published a book on Islamic extremism called Celsius 7/7, which Dalrymple dismissed as a “confused epic of simplistic incomprehension, riddled with more factual errors and misconceptions than any other text I have come across in two decades of reviewing books on this subject”.

I’ve been up north for two days (not your north, still under y’all) and had a blast and learned so much! Favourite moment was escaping the crowds at lindisfarne and walking up the coast. It. Was. Bliss.

A white - listing slightly to the left - pyramid. It’s surrounded by sand dunes and grass and in the distance you can see the sea, sparkling. Above is a light blue sky, radiant! And the cloud formation seems to mimic the pyramid, but in reverse. The clouds appear to start at the top of the pyramid and fan out.

Everything i have reluctantly learned about this adaptation has been against my will…and strikes me as really deeply attention seeking. Clearly the film doesn’t speak for itself if the director needs to be as ‘shocking’ and ‘provocative’ as any sheltered teen lashing out. Poor Emily.

Have had a wonderful birthday weekend with my family back home. Now feeling quite sad and flat and lovely to be back (home!) in Leeds - despite my love for the city. Consoling myself by remembering that my niece and nephew made me Lego cupcakes and bunting for my birthday.
