Saw the work of Vienna Actionist Günter Brus for the first time: his piece Extreme Tension (1970) in which he abases & hurts himself in ways that felt like direct atonement for the harm caused by Austria & Germany. I felt like he was doing it for me. I had a strong reaction: empathy, tears, shaking.
