Harvest time is underway. Will be making soup for the freezer, (when it cools down a bit!) and searching out other tasty recipes. #squash
I can’t remember the last time I had a small tortoiseshell in the garden. Lovely to see! Time to do the #BigButterflyCount I think.
When I was little I used to love going for walks by the beck in the Cumbrian village where my grandparents lived. Even as a teenager, it was one of my favourite rambles. Today, I introduced Theo to that same walk. It felt good. (Although, I still can’t skim a stone across the water!!)
Thrilled to find TWO hedgehogs in the garden last night! We’ve had one regularly and I feared he was the only one around so this was a real treat. Lots of snorting and snuffling and shoving around so I’m not sure if they’re a pair or two males.
A day away from all the noise and the hustle, escaping to the fells. Whitethroat and Yellow hammer singing in the trees, a heat haze on the fell and Long Meg and her Daughters slumbering in the sun. A blissful day in Eden.
A mere 19° now and it’s beautiful out here. I’m reluctant to head indoors.
The conjunction of the moon and Venus tonight. It’s lovely and quiet out there. In case you’re trying to avoid a certain football match.
Tinker’s rose we call it. Planted where we scattered our much loved cat’s ashes. This year he’s done us proud.
I have a little shady nook to hide in. I’m delighted with the rose arch this year, it’s putting on a lovely show. A perfect #writing hideaway on a day like this. With the cats for company of course.
A cuddle with my birthday boy today, and 5 years ago. Where has that time gone?
I was able to enjoy the glorious display of bluebells in our local woodland today. It was breathtaking and impossible to record in a photo. Sunlight and birdsong, the delicate scent of the flowers all gave me solace after a difficult few weeks.
After an afternoon of hospital visiting it’s nice to sit in the garden with a cup of tea. The apple blossom is gorgeous and it’s good to see the bees round the bee hotels too.
The Song thrush wakes me every morning, singing his heart out at the top of his favourite tree. This morning he started at 4.30… and he’s still going! He’ll be the soundtrack of my morning.
After two weeks and counting of hospital visits, to see my poorly husband, it’s good to come home and sit in the garden. The apple blossom is in full bloom now.
I still use my mum’s recipe. Even if the crosses look a bit wonky I prefer them like this. #hotcrossbuns
I am currently on writing retreat in North Wales. Trigonos has a beautiful cat called Minnow. After being banned from the workrooms because someone has a cat allergy, she came to help me instead.
Uncovered the garden furniture; now to decide whether to clean the patio or sort out the garage. Opted to put my feet up with a coffee instead.
Morning walk at our local nature reserve. Pause. Listen. A Chiffchaff! Unplanned #springtime dance to celebrate!
Looking forward to showing this leaf ‘skeleton’ to Theo. All those tiny lace-like veins. Beautiful.
There I was, all glamorous after a trip to the hairdresser’s this morning… then I took Theo for a walk.
Apollo has not had a good day. This morning he ventured out, whereupon his arch enemy Sid the ginger cat sprang out from the camouflage of a tree and scared the wits out of him. This afternoon he decided to chase the pigeons on the roof and got stuck on the conservatory roof. Oh how they laughed.
It was lovely to spend the afternoon working in the garden today. Accompanied by the constant burbling of goldfinches in nearby trees, plus two attentive cats, I got plug plants in, and sorted the seeds in the greenhouse. It was good to wander round making plans and enjoying the sunshine!
All tastes catered for in this house. There’ll be chicken and bacon too! #pancakes
As it is #PhantomsFriday I give you the ‘Phantoms at the Priory’ who are currently haunting Norton Priory Museum in Runcorn. What tales they could tell! Well worth a visit if you are in the area! @theghostmonk.bsky.social
