Maddox Rhys is one of the people over the years who have helped to facilitate a safe space for Monica away from home and school. Showing an angry young woman that there's people and places that don't suck out there, and also letting her punch things she won't get in trouble for punching. #WIPSnips

Elena is only physically present in a little bit of the story, but I try to make her presence felt during those parts. I like her a lot. Because of her skills she's in a high position despite her common origins. She's very smart, friendly, and caring. Just don't fuck with her daughter. #WIPSnips

Raven's name and pronouns are a regular feature within the story because it's in Monica's first person perspective and therefore they simply show up as a result. They're mostly left self-evident, but the introduction of Mrs. Marten gave a good opportunity for an explanation. #WIPSnips

When getting a story from Monica's perspective you tend to get very particular observations. She knows what she likes, and isn't shy about telling a third party reading her account what she thinks about it- in very straightforward language. She's happy to share what's in her head. #WIPSnips

In vague-ish order of when I played them. Rogue is mainly there for being the first video game I played. SNES section for being when I really got into games. After that it's just ones that had a big influence on me at the time. Should also be pretty clear which systems I owned (and which I didn't.)

I've rarely taken the opportunity to write Lianne as she acts in her normal teaching role, and I'm quite enjoying it. I want to get across that it's not just because of her looks that she's everyone's favorite teacher. #WIPSnips

Monica meets Raven outside school in the morning and inquires about what she just saw. It's a tightrope balancing between making Monica's text chats both incomprehensible and comprehensible at the same time. Coin flip if I succeed, but I also try to give enough context to get the gist. #WIPSnips

I really like the interactions that come with the time being set when Monica is in high school. One of my favorites is being able to show Mrs. Marten's protective instincts for her students. An authority figure that actually has her best interests in mind is a new experience for Monica. #wipsnips

Character physical description time again, one of my favorite things to write. Monica meets the new teacher for the first time and is temporarily overwhelmed by the sudden reminder of just how much of a lesbian she herself is. #wipsnips

Writing in Monica's first person perspective is quite fun. She rather wears her heart on her sleeve, on occasions where she's wearing sleeves. And in the unlikely event #wipsnips selects the f-bomb I'll be spoiled for choice. A part of her internal monologue when seeing the new English teacher.

Monica thinks pretty highly of her friends/bandmates and never misses an opportunity to hype them up, even in her own head. This is Ash's introduction. #wipsnips

The minor villain of the first few chapters is the school's vice principal. Monica ditches the rest of the school day after an unpleasant interaction and blows off steam at her boxing gym. The owner's daughter helps ice her hands afterwards while commiserating. #wipsnips

Having a superhero setting finally pays off in the most important way- not needing a synonym for a #wipsnips Ash defaults to filling the space with idle conversation. Monica doesn't mind, and in fact usually appreciates the heavy lifting. All Powers are cool. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Synonym- worth Monica's got good friends. Ash will use her popularity and knowledge of rules and systems to fight on her friends' behalf officially. Raven will get up in someone's face to lay out for everyone in hearing range what isn't fair about the situation, damn the consequences. #wipsnips
