Liberal, woke, SoCal native. Raised Catholic, now atheist, cuz nothing kills religion faster than study of religion. I have one simple goal: to outlive fascism in my country.
Every single thing in this drawer is essential for life on this planet. Is it not still a "junk drawer"? [whispering: it's okay. none of you are going anywhere. i got you]
Max is now a Cat Detective. (I was RIGHT to let him watch that movie!) We have a leak in the condensate line. Easy-ish fix but there's quite a bit of water in there. He heard the dripping, I didn't. (We were just hoping he wasn't hanging around because there was an animal in there so... bonus!)
Street corn! I'm obsessed with the corn at Brick & Flour in Glendale. I think it's close. I just can't get the queso fresco to stick to the mayo. It's the "crumbling cheese" but... I'm forced to eat standing at the counter, piling the cheese back on as it falls. And I'm okay with that. Yum!!!!!
My room at The Palms Hotel in Miami had this cutie just inside the door/entry hall. (Shower and larger sink on the other side of the closet.)
My rental car has a weird key. That also doubles as a defensive weapon. Thank you KIA!
I think I've found some of Europe's cooler air. It's been hanging around Southern California the last week or so. July 1st and we've still got "June Gloom." Not complaining, mind you! Not in a hurry to send it home. Just... making it feel welcome.
Sorry for your loss. I have a few nice knives but this piece of shit is what I grab every time. It just does all the jobs. When it dies, I will bury it under a full moon and hope The Great Pumpkin will provide anew.
The oil shortage in the '70s brought about the American move to smaller, lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles. We've gotten away from that as oil flowed. Look at the old vs new Hyundai Santa Fe. My brother's 2025 is as big as a Suburban! (It's electric but is that a good excuse?)
Those damned invaders are finally gone! Max's home is once again his castle. (And I have some atoning to do. It will, I suspect, involve treats.)
Max is VERY engaged in "The Mandalorian." We're getting caught up for the movie. (I haven't told him he won't be allowed to go. sshhhh!)
You and your evil pro-bike propaganda (plus this, just discovered near me) might just do it for me.
Max would've been an expensive purebred Siamese except for the herpes-infected eye he got from his mother. Someone TRIED to throw him in the trash but once the eye was removed he became mine. Trash kitties are the best kitties. Besides, cats don't need "preparation." They just come in and take over.
"Yeah... sure. Caturday. Whatever! Could ya get the f'in light out my f'in face? A guy needs to sleep in!"
I could solve this whole California drought thing. Just pay me to paint my courtyard and the rains will come! I've tried several times. We had zero rain all March. Yesterday was beautiful and sunny, forecast some clouds but no rain. Still, I only painted a small patch. A test. Fate said "Hah!"
My first time growing bulbs in SoCal. The right side is south so doesn't get any sun right now (shaded by the house) but the left side started sprouting in January! I have some purple in the back coming up. And alyssum never disappoints. I think I'm enjoying this flower thing.
Something I just picked up at Vroman's Pasadena. I like it. (Might be my new protest sign.)
Trying out my brother's new guest bathroom bidet. (It's heated!) I lived with two teenaged boys for four years and they NEVER flushed! This would have come in handy. Not just for the rich, people.
Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, Universe! Could you give me a fuckjn' break today?!!!!
I'm getting to it. (But I have to finish "The Nightingale" first cuz by then I'll need a laugh.)
Which is why I've gone to every protest I can manage. It makes me realize I'm not alone. It's a visual reminder that there are *millions* just like me. And so few of them.
It's raining so hard and so sideways that even the planters under the eaves are getting water! Saves me getting out the hose. SoCal winter is finally here!!!
It's finally cool enough to put the blanket back on the bed. This one makes me think about the guy who fell asleep at the down comforter factory, and woke up to several thousand that didn't get fully filled. "Uh... it's a new invention! A down-filled... uh... blanket!" Soft, light, warm. Nice save!
It's hard to see (I was trying to be discreet) but this guy has a Trump flag and an American flag on the back of his truck. I don't care about the T flag, that's already a violation, but both flags are tattered and ratty. That's so disrespectful! But "MAGA are patriots!" Not.
I was there! It was awesome. Didn't hurt that one of the blocks we marched included the Mission Inn, all lit up. I met so many great people. 5:30 - 7:30 was perfect. Sunset, cooling temps, and the city at night. Thank you @indivisible.org ! (I don't know these two but that baby... come on!)
