For sure, I'm halfway through his book now and am loving it (except for the AI generated illustrations but maybe the hidden joke here is that Brian would be taken in by AI grifts)

Finally, after 31 years, I have my own Sega Saturn! Not only that, but I grabbed some component cables, new battery, 2 wireless controllers + 1 OEM, 2 light guns, and a SAROO flash cart with 256GB card filled with every English game I could find. All for the price of one (1) physical Saturn game lol

Speaking of Shining Force, shout-out to that time I scored the most perfect copy of Shining Force CD I'd ever seen, for free! (traded in extras of stuff I also didn't pay for). And yes I did initially make a joke of finding it in that trash can. The things people throw away!

(Again, only hidden for spoilers, it's just a status screen however) Using all female characters means that, yes, I only had Sarah for the first 5 battles, but that's great for me because she's my favorite character, my ride or die. Even over Karna, she's my forever MVP of this game. Those stats!!

Switch 2 screen shot of Sarah, shortly before the final battles of the game. Her stats are above average for a level 23 character (as she was promoted at level 40). Her Attack is actually ?? meaning they were above 100. She was one-shotting everything basically, and doing a full heal whenever needed thanks to 80 MP and Heal 4.

Basically, the reason she's my MVP, besides that I simply like her the most (which is truly all you need in Shining Force to have a "best" unit) is that she's a VERY competent all-rounder, especially if promoted to Master Monk. In that capacity, she can hit HARD (and tank the hits) as well as Heal up to 3 squares away with Heal 3 or do a 100% recovery with Heal 4. Her Detox fixes all status ailments, Blast gives her mage-like offensive in a pinch, and well, Slow is there too lol.

Why do I prefer her to Karna, who has Heal, Blast, AURA, and the mighty Boost? Well, I love Karna, I do, I always pick her at Creed's and she also never leaves my team, but the thing about her is that she is leaned ALL the way into support, in fact I might make her a Vicar instead of Master Monk just to give her a bigger healing pool. If you're using Karna to attack instead of boosing, aura-ing, or Healing in the end-game, you might want to re-evaluate your actual fighters lol. Karna's amazing but by the time you even have access to her, Sarah's already on her way to that mega-promotion, and heck she might even be already promoted to MMNK by the time you get to Karna if you've been leveling her consistently. The second Vigor Ball isn't even available until the end-game, which leaves Karna behind somewhat if your first choice is Sarah. So yeah, Sarah's my top healer/fighter/reluctant Mage, and Karna's my top Healer Who Is Trailing In Levels A Little Because I Don't Boost Or Aura Farm In Shining Force 2. (Image hidden because of potential spoilers) All right! I beat Shining Force 2 with a "limited force" playthrough for the first time! For the entire run I could only use female and cute characters! And yes, we even did THAT (pictured, alt tag for more info) Now on to Shining Force CD!!

Switch 2 screenshot of the final "Game over!" Dialogue from the bonus fight in Shining Force 2, which you access by just hanging on the End screen in a regular game for about 5 whole minutes. This particular fight pits your team (whichever character you used to do the final fight) against every boss in the game plus 2 Prism Flowers. I managed to win this bonus battle without losing a single unit!

Speaking of units, here is the list of SF2 characters I was limited to for the entire game:

Of course, some of those "cute" characters are what I would also consider "essential", but I stuck with the theme of female and/or cute because that neatly fit the 11 characrer limit, as there are only 6 female characters in a cast of 29, which is even less than the first game! I hope the future games are better about this

And yes every character held their own, even Taya and Skreech, who are pretty much universally hated in the community, if youtube is to be believed lol

Phew! The Shade Abbey fight is always the true test of how a random team is coming together, and we passed it just fine! We also got Diane and I fully expect her to outshine Hans throughout this playthrough

Well here's the initial troupe! Hate to dismiss Ken and Lowe (and don't forget Gong!) but at least we get a healer (Khris) soon, plus Arthur and Torasu later, my favorites in their respective fields!

Khris-ening the Switch's Genesis Online app with a Random Force playthrough (see alt text for explanation), and after over 10 of these playthroughs I finally rolled the dreaded Jogurt lol I'll post updates here as I remember to <3

If you haven't heard me explain it before, Random Force is where I take all of the 29 non-hero characters from the game Shining Force on the Genesis and place them all in a randomizer, and then the first 11 results from the scramble are hard-locked as the ONLY characters I may use in the entire game. Any characters I have that aren't these 11 characters must be killed immediately in battle or shuffled off the team as soon as that option becomes available. There are no other rules or restrictions, I just have to make do with the names I'm given. It's a really fun way to play without resorting to things like mods or whatever (which I'm not above, but since I typically play on authentic or at least unmodded versions of the game, is not the direction I tend to go.)

By the way, I mentioned Khris-ening the Genesis app, so I have this weird tic where, every time Shining Force becomes available on a new video game system, I feel like I have to beat it at least once. I guess it's because it's one of my favorite games, is relatively breezy and short, and truly available EVERYWHERE the Genesis pokes its head. So far I've beaten it on its original Genesis cart (MANY times), Wii, Genesis Mini, Switch (via the Sega Genesis Classics Collection that's no longer available), and my Mega Everdrive and Analogue Pocket FPGA. Since I haven't yet played it on the Genesis App for some reason, that's the goal for this playthrough. Thanks for reading lol.

I decided to start participating in #randomgamesaturday, so I closed my eyes and reached into a NES bin and pulled out... Dynowarz: Destruction of Spondylus! I beat this game years ago, it's good if a bit cheapish, but 10/10 -no notes- on the cover art, rad as hell! Vivi says hi as well lol

*image hidden for spoilers, not actually graphic media* We did it! We beat FF6 with mainly Relm and Strago! Also I found out JUST TONIGHT that "Sketch" DOES work against the final boss! It lets you cast Ultima, so it's actually useful! We also got 100% spells and Lore for the pair, really fun!
