Also 1950s! Park Row (1952) absolutely rips as a news movie. I’ve seen it twice now.

Name a TV show no one remembers but you. Pretty sure I’m the only person on Earth who watched the legal drama where Hayley Atwell plays A Former President’s Wayward Bisexual Daughter

Hayley Atwell and a bunch of other actors I don’t currently remember the names of, all of whom are trying to look smart and cool and sexy. It’s giving “we saw you across the bar” but there are already five of them. There’s also some yellow-orange gradiented text with the show’s name, Conviction, and it has a slash through it.

The Last Session is another very queer comic series about finding yourself and working through conflict in a fantasy TTRPG setting, but an upbeat YA addition to the genre. Both volumes are a delight. 🏳️‍🌈🎲

Lev AC Rosen’s queer noir Evander Mills series is a current favourite. There have been four books so far and I hope there will eventually be more. The first is Lavender House. 💜

I’ll stop recommending queer Gothic romances when people stop writing great ones. I’ve been getting really into the Age of Sail and nautical Gothic lately, so I was more than happy to have Anbara Salam’s The Salvage wrap its tentacles around my brain.

Brooms is a lovely & inclusive historical fantasy, but Teo DuVall’s art & Bex Glending’s colours are so drop-dead gorgeous this could have been a comic about soup manufacturing or power tools and I probably still would have clapped like a seal.

I’m not generally a Sports Enjoyer, but still I devoured all three volumes of this magical girl softball series in under a week. Do with that what you will.

Meanwhile, Tall Water by SJ Sindu and Dion MBD is one of the most devastating comics I’ve read this year: a teen journalist’s journey to Sri Lanka to reconnect with her mother. It’s a coming of queerness story, but also an exploration of diaspora identity and Sri Lanka’s history and traumas.

Stars in Their Eyes by Jessica Walton and Aska is a beautiful celebration of comic cons, parent-child relationships, and awkward teen queerness. This is a rare instance of a disability-centric comic that’s extremely funny and I wish there were more of that.

Next up, it’s another verse novel: Dayspring by Anthony Oliveira, which is metatextually dense, gorgeous, and probably the most queerly horny Jesus poetry since John Donne & Gerard Manley-Hopkins (who it also references) I’m still in the middle of this one because I am taking so. Many. Notes.
