The theme for today's #BlueSkyArtShow is #Big and this was the first image I thought of - although it's only a small painting. It shows a view of the Cambridgeshire #fens where I used to live. I do miss seeing the #big skies and huge flocks of birds in winter, but prefer the hills where I am now!

My framed watercolour painting of fenland farmland in November. There is a ploughed field in the foreground with deep ridges of dark soil stretching away diagonally to the right. Puddles of water have formed between the ridges reflecting the pale sky, and in the bottom left corner of the painting there are clumps of dead grasses. Along the distant low horizon there are a few bare trees and a small cluster of farm buildings. A flock of birds is flying up from the ploughed field into the sky which is mostly pale yellow and blue with purple-tinged clouds.

Hello stranger! This orchid had lots of flowers the first 2 years I had it, but for the next 5 - nothing. I tried putting it in different places, repotting, feeding, not feeding, watering more, watering less ... Looks like I've finally done something right but not sure what! #orchid #fussy

Sometimes gardening is one disappointment after another: slugs gale force winds not enough rain too much rain pests/ diseases etc. etc. but then something magical makes it all worthwhile I was convinced this clematis was dead, when suddenly this happened ... #GardenLife

Our umpteenth wedding anniversary, so we celebrated in what is now our traditional manner with a picnic by the water - this year it was the River Ribble near Clitheroe.

In the foreground there are two pairs of feet - mine and his - in sturdy walking boots resting on the grass of a river bank. Beyond this is a straight stretch of river flowing from right to left with trees on the far side.

They're escaping! The poached egg plants (Limnanthes) in my front garden are obviously overcrowded so some are making a dash for freedom. But as they do a great job of attracting hoverflies and other pollinators I'm happy to let them go where they will. #gardening #flowers

I needed to send a birthday card while I was on holiday in Cumbria so I was pleased to find this postbox in the village of #Hallbankgate - and even more pleased that someone had put steps up to it so little people like me could reach it! #PostboxSaturday

Will this do for today's #BlueSkyArtShow theme #ShadowPlay ? I took this photo thinking I'd like to try a pastel painting of the plant, but I soon became more interested in trying to show the shadows on the right hand wall. I might do another one leaving out the plant altogether! #pastel #painting

Only cut my 'lawn' once last year - with my quiet, eco-friendly manual mower - and no plans to do it again anytime soon! The metal cat is part of my efforts to keep the local felines away from my tiny nature reserve. Luckily the birds are clever enough to know it's not real.

Last autumn I planted some new tulip bulbs in the garden. I chose 2 packs labelled 'Pink' and 'Purple' thinking that would be an attractive colour combination, but ... Not complaining, all colours welcome, and I'm thankful they all survived last night's storm! #surprise #gardening #tulips

A couple of days ago I rescued a double daffodil bud that had been broken off by strong winds in the garden. Wasn't sure if it had developed enough to open, but ...! At least it looks like spring indoors now, although that wind still feels like winter outside. #SpringFlower #daffodil

There's an art to making a traditional drystone wall so here's my contribution to today's #BlueSkyArtShow on the theme of #stone. Not sure if I took this photo on the #Lancashire or #Yorkshire side of the #Pennines but it's definitely 'oop North!

A traditional drystone wall made from irregularly shaped natural rocks in shades of grey fitted together to make a strong wall, and topped with narrow slabs of stone placed vertically and slightly slanted to the left. The wall is on a windswept hillside with grass on both sides and a few trees in the background.
