So I'm finally watching The Other Bennet Sister and omg, the parallels to Unlikely Pursuit—firstly, no one will never convince me that Charlotte/Mary aren't incredibly suited to each other! Mary is also really into the natural sciences (especially rocks) in my book. But... super queer.

If there was ever a last line that made you really want to read (or not read) a book, surely this would be it: (Book is The Garden of Seven Twilights by Miquel de Palol, and yes this is a paragraph I'm genuinely considering including in my PhD thesis—at the very least, it's unique?)

Test reads: "Palol’s book is a modern take on Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales or Boccacio’s Decameron; a group of individuals, most wealthy and well-connected, cluster together in a secret hideout after some sort of apocalyptic event in the year 2025. They pass the time by telling stories to each other, much like the two aforementioned examples, but Palol’s formatting structure nests like a matryoshka, using a numerical structure in the left margin: the main story, narrated by a mysterious thirty-something man, is designated as 1, and when someone in his immediate vicinity begins telling a story, this is designated as 1>2. If that second individual begins telling a story from the point of view of a character in their story, this is designated as 2>3 and so on, leading to a spiral story structure that feels three-dimensional as it sucks the reader down into a whirlpool of financial crimes, jewelry heists, and genetically-enhanced humans who masturbate with pieces of room-temperature roast beef."
