Frida & Diego: The Last Dream, a collaboration with the Met's production El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, is also fabulous. I don't think I've seen much of Kahlo's work in person &, wow, I was blown away by the detail (the work is smaller than I expected, but of course, she mostly painted in bed).

V & I went to MoMA last night, along with millions of other folks. Sometimes a crowded museum is fun! Most people were checking out the Duchamp, but we wanted to see the Architects of Liberation: Modernism in Western Africa show. It was fabulous & so much to take in, I had to buy the catalogue.

I had read the article many times, but had not seen the page layout until I read Alison Bechdel's Cartoonist's Introduction to the Essential Dykes to Watch Out For, in which she redraws the page.

45 years ago today, the NYT published its first article about what was not yet identified as AIDS, titled "Rare Cancer Seen in 41 Homosexuals." As I & others have noted, the article is buried deep inside the paper on A20 & is mostly concerned w/reassuring "nonhomosexuals" that they are not at risk..

As it happens, I saw an amazing Brassaï show at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm called "The Secret Signs of Paris last month. The title "alludes to how the photographer revealed a hidden world through his camera." This is also what Owens means by the concept & practice of "photography en abyme."

Morning run along the Kinda Canal in Linköping. Saw this fella (look closely on the wall) as well as some folks who had clearly been at a bar watching Sweden beat Tunisia in the wee hours.

Dropped by the Manchester Art Gallery today & discovered The Pocket Park in front of the gallery, inspired by Derek Jarman's garden at Prospect Cottage, has been "temporarily closed due to anti-social behaviour." Not sure whether Jarman would be horrified or amused, or both, by this development.
