Some of the political debate around this subject has saddened me, not least the way that trans people’s reality and experience has been denied. We even have evidence of British trans people from the 4th century—they have existed forever. Will the Secretary of State confirm that the trial is a real attempt to get a proper evidence base for treatment for young people that is really needed?

Except the GRA doesn't say "some purpose" it says "All purposes" with some explicit exceptions. Scottish Ministers extended expressed exceptions to be implied exceptions if a way can be found to reinterpret parliament intent.

Where a full gender recognition certificate is issued to a person, the person’s gender becomes for all purposes the acquired gender (so that, if the acquired gender is the male gender, the person’s sex becomes that of a man and, if it is the female gender, the person’s sex becomes that of a woman)

On the issue of single-sex spaces — such as public bathrooms, hospital wards, or changing rooms — the Equality Act already provides for exemptions that allow access to be restricted in certain circumstances. These provisions exist to help organisations navigate complex and sensitive situations. However, clearer guidance is urgently needed, and the Liberal Democrats have long called for this clarity to ensure decisions are applied fairly and consistently.

My god they quite literally have the toilet police, and when they are not there it's locked with pin code access. Presumably your pin code is immutable and determined at conception based on your egg production potential, faulty, poultry or otherwise.

Hold on there's something fishy about this chart. The 3 younger groups there was overwhelming support for trans women but in the older 3, two of them were pretty even yet the overall figure matches these. It suggests an age bias in the polling with more participants recruited in the opposed groups

I would like to draw your attention to the Red Flag Alert on Anti-trans and intersex Rights in the UK recently issued by the Lemkin Institute.

It is imperative that MPs take action now to protect trans and intersex rights, to later give the proposed EHRC guidance proper scrutiny when it is laid before parliament and if it doesn't align with trans people's human rights and parliament's original intention for the Equality Act 2010, as detailed in Hansard and the guidance written at the time the Equality Act became law and near universally understood for 15 years, it is within parliament's power to bring forward legislation to resolve the mess created by the supreme court judgement in For Women Scotland on April 16th.

Trans women can and do produce breast milk and can breast feed a baby and as such should be protected from discrimination when breastfeeding. If the EHRC doesn't understand basic biology why does it think it can impose its ideological gender critical rigid sex essentialist narrow world view onto the law.

except the supreme court didn't say that, they just kicked the can down the road saying the definition of biological is the ordinary meaning and obvious whilst forgetting they just issued a judgement on the definition of sex which was apparently equally obvious and them doing so causing chaos.

Although the word “biological” does not appear in this definition, the ordinary meaning of those plain and unambiguous words corresponds with the biological characteristics that make an individual a man or a woman. These are assumed to be self-explanatory and to require no
further explanation. Men and women are on the face of the definition only differentiated as a grouping by the biology they share with their group.

The Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) LGBTQ+ staff network is refusing to march under the organisation’s banner at Pride after being told the regulator would be designating office single-sex facilities, such as toilets, as based on “biological sex”.

In an email seen by PinkNews, members of InsideOut said that in the wake of discussions with senior leaders, the steering group “cannot, in good conscious, organise and support the [financial regulator’s] attendance at any Pride celebrations this year”.

I was surprised the SC said that you can't ask to see a GRC as I thought that was just folklore. But as the SC based and hinged their judgement on it with their you can't tell between a TW GRC holder, non GRC TW or man because you can't ask to see a GRC skit, pa 202, I guess it's now actual law.

202. Since, as we have explained above, neither possession of a GRC nor the protected
characteristic of gender reassignment require any physiological change or even any
change in outward appearance, there is no obvious outward means of distinguishing
between a person with the protected characteristic of gender reassignment who has a GRC
and a person with that characteristic who does not. The only difference between these two
groups is possession of a paper certificate and that fact (possessing a GRC) is confidential
to the person who has it and subject to stringent restrictions on disclosure (see section 22
of the GRA 2004). The duty-bearer cannot ask whether it has been obtained. There is,
accordingly, no way for duty-bearers to distinguish confidently between these two groups
when regulating their conduct in accordance with obligations imposed by the EA 2010.
Moreover, in either case, the individual’s biological sex may continue to be readily
perceivable and may form the basis of unlawful discrimination. A person has the protected
characteristic of gender reassignment as soon as they propose to undergo the process so
it may be that at that stage there is no change in outward appearance.

EHRC used a mother with a 10yr son as an example and said it was permitted as the son wasn't a threat (don't laugh) and it encouraged the mothers participation. The guidance is shit. We knew that, it's because the law is now shit and unworkable and incompatible with ECHR.

One of the aims of having separate-sex changing rooms is to safeguard women’s ability to access the facilities and use them safely. A woman is allowed to take her male child under the age of ten into the women’s changing room. This does not undermine the aim, because it is unlikely that young boys pose a threat to women’s safety. It also contributes towards achieving the aim, because fewer women would be able to use the swimming pool if they could not bring their children with them.

Interesting as my MP was so proud of the Libdems voting against it in the HofC. Nb "we" in the screenshot didn't include him as he abstained. And didn't seem worried about human rights of trans people but concerned it was too much bother.

We voted against NC21, which would have required public bodies to record sex and gender data separately. We believe this amendment would place unnecessary burdens on public services, particularly for individuals with a Gender Recognition Certificate, and does not provide additional clarity.

We have demonstrated that the Cass report’s application of EBM to GAC for children and young people is deeply flawed. Our critical analysis reveals significant methodological problems in the commissioned systematic reviews and primary research that undermine the validity of the Cass report’s recommendations. During our review of the report and supplementary primary research, we found insufficient statistical rigor, unreliable datasets, claims presented without evidence, and misrepresentation of quotes from primary research participants. These flaws highlight a potential double standard present throughout the review and its subsequent recommendations, where evidence for gender-affirming care is held to a higher standard than the evidence used to support many of the report’s recommendations. Considering this, and the Cass report’s poor understanding of transgender identities and experiences, it is vital to question the integrity and validity of the Review’s recommendations and the appropriateness of basing health policy on them. To uphold its commitment to evidence-based medicine, future gender-affirming care research must generate robust observational data, involve transgender communities, and prioritise patient-centred outcomes, ensuring validity, generalisability, and cultural relevance.
