It’s exciting to see the city’s investments in resident led affordable housing coming to fruition! Already accomplished: Crescent Hall renovations and phase 1 of both South 1st St and Kindlewood. Right now phase 2 of South 1st St and Kindlewood are underway, as well as phase 1 of 6th St.
Although he is talking about New York City, @mayor.nyc.gov’s comments about people who once called a city home being priced out resonate deeply with what is happening in Charlottesville. His solution? Build more housing and deliver it to working class people.

Some good housing news: @sandymarks.bsky.social is on track to win the Alexandria City Council special election by a significant margin! Whether Charlottesville, Albemarle, or Alexandria, pro-housing candidates regularly do well in Virginia local elections when they go against NIMBY’s.

We encourage you to attend the IMPACT Nehemiah Action this Tuesday at 630pm. IMPACT will seek clear commitments from public officials on affordable housing, public transportation, and community safety & fair policing. 🧵
We also encourage you to attend one of the Albemarle County Community Budget Town Halls. While you are there, make sure to advocate for increased funding for affordable housing.

Second, also at 6pm on Wednesday, the Charlottesville Fire Department is holding a Strategic Plan Town Hall at City Space. We encourage you to show up and ask for CFD to encourage rather than discourage safe street design. And it’s a good opportunity to press for smaller fire trucks!
