If you want to donate to what is sure to be a very long recovery effort, Innovia is a reputable local foundation that is organizing relief funds goinnovia.org/spokane-comp... I donated $50 to start (screenshots encourage others to do the same, I've heard, so... )
The day after the Spokane fires started, the smoke was apocalyptic. I went to Target to shop for CASA donations, and overheard a dad in the socks section say to his son "Doesn't matter what it costs, we don't have anything anymore" 😢
When the wind shifted around 6:20 today, I had this view looking SW toward the Old Trails fire in Spokane. Send our city good vibes, y'all--it's already been quite devastating & isn't close to over
I am not being the most consistent with #TourDeFleece but in fairness I have an new obstacle named Benji
All warped with a chaotic mix of cotton I had on hand and threaded rosepath to do a little sampling while I get to know the loom ❤️❤️ #dhmakes if you're a weaver, drop your favorite 4-shaft patterns 😊
Playing the game Ransom Notes with friends yesterday, and I'm *quite* pleased with how I did summarizing Romeo and Juliet from a random pool of word magnets 😅
My table loom woes have been temporarily solved by buying a slimmer shuttle and giving up on the towels I was weaving (I got SO bored) and just messing around with some handspun I don't have enough of to knit with.
My phone recently got this "Comfort view" feature that reduces color intensity on the screen-- I've had on for many weeks now and on the rare occasion I turn it off I'm appalled at how saturated everything is "normally"! How did I stare at that all the time?? (my attempt to simulate pictured below)
Wow, this is incredible! I heard the astronauts saying something to the effect of "this feels like sci-fi" and I see what they mean! Even just looking at this picture I got that feeling. Can't even imagine what it would have been like to see in person!
Recently picked up this book, Year of Wonder by Clemency Burton-Hill. Today realized it matches the sweater I'm currently knitting! Lovely bit of serendipity
I'm taking up mandolin, and I have my grandpa's old instrument, but I need a strap for it. You know what that means... inkle loom time!!
Grief is SO weird. My mom's been gone for 9.5 years now, but today out of the blue I miss her more intensely than I did 6, 7, 8 years ago.
Amused by all the various ways people represented dates on a single page of this book: 19 : iii : '69 28-3-1969 19 · v · 69 27-viii-69 9.x.69 ?/8/'63 ?? 25th Oct 69 5th February 1970 Why are dates like this 😂 😭
Last thing for now, I will say I think the Wyoming coins is the most poorly-designed. Not because I don't like the image, but because it doesn't wear well! I think the lack of fine detail makes it easier for it to rub away, counterintuitively. Fewer crevices for contrast-creating dirt?
The fact that Delaware-minted coins mostly go west and Philadelphia-minted coins mostly stay east really shows here, too! This collection was made mainly in WA state, so of course D coins are much more common. Interesting that despite OH being more commonly D, it's still under in the collection
Shown a slightly different way, here is how over (or under) represented each state is, based on those percentages. I was *shocked* when I learned that Connecticut, Georgia, and New Hampshire aren't the top three minted, I feel like I see SO many of them! (the top 3 minted are VA, CT, and NY)
Okay, I finally have something to share about this! There are a total of 851 quarters in the collection. Only two full sets, though, due to Texas being SUPER under-represented (only two!) This chart shows what percent each state is of the total coins in the collection, and the total actually minted
The Spokane River -- featuring the longest urban waterfall in the country
I kept procrastinating on this, but at long last she is ready for weaving!
Watching @jonwurster.bsky.social is always my favorite part of seeing @themountaingoats.bsky.social live 😊😊
It's been too long since I warped my big loom, and I forgot I need to keep the warp cross at BOTH ends 😭 Pray for me, #DHmakes crowd
