There is a whole growing city in SW Florida built around this throwback Catholicism: Ave Maria. It has its own university and law school too. I wonder how this falls within the range of acceptable or schism? Yeah, that’s a streetsign in their Cathedral square.

Grassroots politics in SW Florida: neighbors gathered at our house to hear and support four opposition candidates for Tallahassee, Lee County & local Bonita Springs. Incumbents for the big offices have big donors from special interests like Big Sugar. We support with our wallets and shoe leather.
I point out that the flag has been weaponized across the whole political spectrum, far left to far right. 1st Amendment articulates that this is protected freedom of speech. Yet I wouldn’t want to have been this METRO rider this morning, as the group used it to muster. Not even a little bit.
Patriot Front, the white supremacy group, marched in DC today, 7/4/26. Earlier today I found myself in a heated social media discussion about absolute reverence for our flag, and what it signals about being a worthy American. A politician who identifies as Democratic Socialist was being trashed.
I liked her casting. And the fact that the director chose two actresses with ordinary teeth. Neither were white as chiclets. And Supergirl’s were sweetly irregular.

I realize it’s just one example, but this crowd singing the national anthem at a packed No Kings rally in SW Florida was pretty damned patriotic.
I have my street theater kit ready for Independence week festivities in Philadelphia. Counting on some good conversations.
It’s a great point of pride in Philadelphia history. And that’s why we have the “toy” version inside The Please Touch museum.
It gives me courage to keep pressing on toward our “more perfect union” to see this building, the last remaining major structure from the centennial, repurposed for positivity and joy. It wasn’t easy. It was a derelict structure for decades. Kids gave it purpose again. Remembering KIDS matters.
Exactly 150 years ago, 11 years past the surrender at Appomattox, this building was at the center of world excitement. What Philadelphians now call Memorial Hall was the art museum of the Centennial Exposition. The torch of the Statue of Liberty was exhibited outside. Now it’s a great kids’ museum.
