Either Evri exists in a different space-time dimension from the people expecting deliveries or it's tracking system isn't worth the pixels used to display it.

Another heart of our household stopped beating this morning. RIP Ruby. She arrived as a stray in 2015 and was the most affectionate of cats. She will be missed.

Yes but Starmer is allowing far right to dictate media agenda & falling into the immigration trap. He's reinforcing the message that immigration & asylum are priorities for the public. They're not. Housing, health care, climate are but people are convinced deporting asylum seekers will solve them.

The government in appearing to make reduction of immigration a key priority and using language sympathetic to racists and the far right when talking about asylum seekers is that it gives the impression that reducing immigration and being tough on asylum seekers will solve the problems that are adversely affecting peoples’ lives.

They won’t. And therefore even if the government stops all small boat arrivals and further reduces visa for students, essential worker and family members, no one’s lives will be improved and they will be perceived to have failed. They will be pressurised to go for the next scapegoats (disabled people?), and then the next (unemployed?, women?). Our society will become hostile to almost everyone even, eventually, the people who believe that hurting foreigners advantages them.

Instead the government should be saying: ”We understand that people are concerned about immigration and no-one like to see vulnerable people risking their lives on small boats in the channel or living in crowed hotels forbidden the means to support themselves - so we are working hard to fix the system, particularly the asylum system. But we have to say, even if we stopped all immigration and returned all asylum seekers it would make imperceptible difference to the problems people tell us that bother them” access to housing, NHS waiting lists, skills training, transport, cost of living, climate, and inequality between regions of our country.”

“So yes, we take immigration and asylum seriously, but our main priorities are to fix the problems blighting peoples’s lives - and they are not caused by the immigrant living down the road or small boat arrivals - so we are focusing on the real causes and tackling them.”

Every year on his anniversary I take a photo of the tree planted by my late husband. His ashes were buried by it when it was still a sapling. Now it blooms for him. Bitter-sweet. Fond memories. RIP Andy 11 July 1957 - 21 May 2004.

Which parties are you including as hard Brexit parties? They certainly add up to more than Labour's individual share but I can't see anywhere near 70%+ from the Electoral Reform Society figures here: election2024.electoral-reform.org.uk

Young man in the tractor says he's from Scrase Farms. Looks like a nice business built up over a couple of generations. No doubt he works very hard but he doesn't grow our food & race horse owners aren't usually considered hard up. IHT may sting them but what are our priorities? scrasefarms.co.uk

Harvested the last chilis (Lemon drop) of the season today just before it started to snow. Grown in hydroponic system in poly-tunnel. Given the weather forecast I decided not to wait to see if any more of those still green would ripen. #GrowYourOwn

I had an outpatient appointment at Royal Stoke recently. The appointment letter dated 5th August 2024 included a section on Covid and instructions that masks needed to be worn. I would have anyway, but when I was there no one else was wearing masks.

If you have any covid-19 symptoms, please do not attend your appointment, book a PCR test and stay at home.

Please bring with you to your appointment
• Your appointment card or letter.
• Afacemask or covering.
• Any medication you are taking.
• Details of existing medical conditions and/or allergies you have.
• Samples fi requested.
• Proof of entitlement to free prescriptions and/or travel. You may be entitled to claim your travel expenses fi you are receiving supplementary benefits.

When you arrive for your appointment
Anyone attending our hospitals, either as a patient or visitor, should come alone where possible and wear a facemask at all times and follow infection prevention
measures including washing hands/using antibacterial hand gel and will be asked to keep a distance from other people. Hands, Face, Space.

Please could you attend as close to your appointment time as possible. Most clinics at Royal Stoke have a self check facility in the main entrance.

I've monitored quarterly averages mapping units generated v daily sunshine hours* for almost 8 years. We don't have a battery, our system was installed way back on one of the earliest schemes when they weren't easily available. *From national statistics so not necessarily precise for my location

But to be fair to voters it wasn't in their manifesto. They made up this particular "will of the people" themselves and then their newspaper mates persuaded a noisy minority that it was what they voted for. What they actually promised their voters:

Gathered in the last harvest of Summer crops from my greenhouse on Sunday. The aubergines have already been pickled and bottled. The tomatoes will become jam. The plants are still flowering but it's time to clear them out ready for the winter crops. Makes me sad but they won't survive over Winter.
