Alan's #birdoftheday today is #ScreenFiller. Alt #migratory. Fantastic Fulmar. Strictly speaking (and we know how strict Alan can be!), fulmars are pelagic (ocean dwelling) rather than #migratory, but we only get to see them in certain seasons, so I think it's a #Twofer. #birds #ECK

Two Herring Gulls in a dramatic, mid-air struggle over a single fish. The gulls are engaged in a high-stakes competition for a food resource. One gull has firm possession of a large fish head in its beak, while the second bird swoops in aggressively with its wings flared and beak open, emitting an aggressive call to intimidate its opponent.

Alan's #birdoftheday today is #TheArtOfSurvival. As mentioned before, we've had ~50 nest boxes up in sessile oak woodland in mid 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 for over 15 yrs, primarily for pied flycatchers. Not seen this behaviour before (♂️ giving ♀️ food to take to box). Taken 5 June on our month away. #birds #ECK
