I know he just says stuff but this isn’t in theory an empty threat. 90% of Iran’s oil exports and thus an overwhelming chunk of their finances come from one island in the Persian gulf that’s very easy to either bomb or capture. If they capture it, that’s immense leverage over any Iranian government.

Doesn’t this simply assume that we’re intrinsically better than the French or Italians who’ve suffered worse growth than us since 2000 despite being inside the eurozone and starting with larger economies?
Here’s the graph. EU growth since Eurozone came into existence. Obviously this is actually slightly *less* favourable to UK because EU has tended to grow faster than Eurozone due to the post-2000 joiners having more catch-up growth, but it’s demonstrative.
