ICE has managed to stay mostly below the radar screen since leaving Minneapolis and changing leadership. It has apparently been far too easy for the administration to distract attention from the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, from the way ICE barged into people's homes without search warrants, claiming it didn't need them, from how people were separated from their families and how five-year-olds were used as bait to try to detain their parents. Immigration abuses rank high on the list of outrages committed by this administration. It's dangerous to take our eyes off of what this administration is willing to tolerate in its drive for high deportation numbers.
Tuesday, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican immigrant in Houston, was fatally shot by an ICE agent who was trying to arrest him during a traffic stop. ICE says Araujo was in the U.S. without legal immigration status. They also said he refused to comply with officers.

You have to come up with solutions. The Republicans don't know how to respond. They're on Larry Kudlow's show on Fox saying, "You can't have free rent." Stop. Hang on. You actually can, and that's what I'm saying - you have to create economic opportunities to deal with housing separately. If you're going to fight against these guys with, "You can't have free rent," that's not a winning formula because people are saying the rent is too damn high.
What they've done very smartly is put a veneer of populism on this. You have to come back with real populist economic policies. You have to come back with the family as the center of a set of economic policies. You have to give people an alternative. If you just sit there and demonize, that's certainly not enough.

What I want to tell you is this: if you need to step away and breathe, please do. You have your whole life ahead of you. You have done more than enough for your community and your country. You were eleven years old when this started. You didn't ask to be a test case for anybody. You just wanted to play sports with your teammates.
And instead of quietly disappearing the way they hoped you would, you fought, for five years, all the way to the United States Supreme Court.
Standing up to bigotry in the first place was winning. Six justices ruled against you. The other three said the Court was moving too fast, deciding your case before anyone had fully heard your story. That doesn't undo what you already won just by standing up. You also went on to win the West Virginia state championship in shot put while maintaining a 4.0 GPA as your legal fate was still being decided, which might be the most athlete thing I've ever heard of. You have earned rest. Take it if you need it.
I needed it after my case. I ran, and I hid. I needed time away from all of it.
That's not quitting. That's surviving.

not. Plaintiff's signs and flag fall well within the heartland of protected First Amendment
speech, and Defendants offer no plausible basis for suppressing Plaintiff's core, political speech.

My deep love for Charity Bryant and Sylvia Drake, the subjects of my 2014 biography Charity and Sylvia, has kept me silent, up to this point, about Tillie Walden's new graphic novel by the same title. Charity and Sylvia's story has been so deeply meaningful to so many people-their story has, without exaggeration, saved lives that I've tried to be happy that Walden's book is making their story more widely known, even if she chose to take my title and my cover design as well as my narrative and my research with only a single sentence of acknowledgement at the end of her book in her notes section. Walden's illustrations and storytelling are wonderful, as I told her when she reached out to me during the writing process. It would take nothing away from her hard work to be honest about how it is built on my hard work. But in Walden's publicity tour, she has repeatedly made the claim to have based her book on her extensive research in the archive without acknowledging that her book is, in fact, based on my book. This false representation demands response not only for my sake, but for the sake of all the hard-working historians out there whose work has similarly been taken without credit. No, Walden has not "uncovered a chapter of queer history" in the archives, as her media interviews have claimed. She has adapted my book without credit or compensation, and claimed my research for her own. I don't doubt that Walden spent time looking at letters at the Henry Sheldon Museum, but the story that Walden tells is not to be found there. It is a story that I pieced together from years of visits to at least twenty different archives and locations across the United States, not only in Vermont but in Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, and Washington State, as well.

The current US-Iran strikes are all about bargaining, à la Schelling.
But both sides are delusional if they think kinetic friction will "reset" anything that matters.
The fundamentals aren't budging:
1) Iran can retaliate indefinitely, with a favorable cost-exchange ratio. It can slowly bleed exquisite US capabilities like interceptors, using cheap missiles and drones.
2) Iran can use cheap capabilities to suppress traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Oil inventories are dangerously low — the world is exhausting its supply cushion. Time is on Iran's side, not Trump's.
3.) The US cannot force Iranian surrender. We took our best shot - and Iran is still fighting back.
The more Trump dithers or flails in vain to "reset" diplomacy with ticky-tack strikes, the more oil inventories AND US munitions stockpiles deplete — and the worse his position gets.
Can we just skip to the end now?
The stable end state is probably:
1. Hormuz reopens with a fee.
2. Higher risk premium priced in to pool forever.
3. Some IAEA administered US-Iran nuclear deal in exchange for sanctions relief and unfrozen assets.
