Had some backcountry therapy today and a day can’t get much better than this.
June 24 is ENS Sign Awareness Day. If your car ever becomes stuck on railroad tracks, get out of the vehicle and look for a blue sign near the crossing. By calling the phone number and relaying the information on the sign, the railroad company will be able to stop trains until your car is removed.
Evening stroll in downtown Colorado Springs. This is one of my absolute favorite murals in town, and it arguably looks even better at night.
When built in the early 1900s, this house in Colorado Springs’ Patty Jewett neighborhood was awarded by the city’s newspaper to the employee who sold the most subscriptions. (A cool piece of history, but man, talk about the heyday of newspapers.)
A commuter bus and fire truck responding to a call had an unfortunate meeting in downtown Colorado Springs today. A CSPD officer said there were multiple injuries to people in both vehicles, but that none that were life threatening.

This weekend was almost too fantastic. The mountains are truly my happy place and I’m so lucky to once again live in Colorado.
Here, Tesla constructed the largest Tesla coil ever built and experimented with sending a wireless signal from Pikes Peak to Paris, France. It's not known if he succeeded and he left Colorado Springs in 1900. A plaque was placed in nearby Memorial Park in 2017 to commemorate Tesla's time in town.
Nikola Tesla in 1899 built the Tesla Experimental Station in Colorado Springs where this Knob Hill house is today. He chose the spot because of its clear view of Pikes Peak (ironically not visible today when I took these photos).

Colorado Springs once had a literal “poor farm” where, in the days before social safety nets like Medicaid, people without means were sent to work and live. Now located near the Bear Creek Dog Park, northeast of the old farm site, sits a “paupers cemetery” where some of them were laid to rest.
Fun fact: Pabor tried to name a famous Garden of the Gods rock formation "Seal Making Love to a Nun," but Palmer fired him for it. Today, the formation tends to be called the Seal and the Bear. (Sadly, the "seal" collapsed after heavy rains in 1942.) (Clipping also from the Gazette.)
