Therapist. Artist. Introvert who is frequently wrong in an embarrasingly loud voice. Finally old enough for Medicare and very excited about it. I don't reply to DMs, but my posts are open to replies.
The fruit is how I first learned to paint. That was maybe my second painting. I've only done maybe 20 so far in my life and Im proud of that one. The abstract picnic scene, I finished today. My first abstract. I know it isn't any good. But, man, was it fun. And it's all mine. I wanna do it again.
I want Bari Weiss to.lead with THIS story and image tonight and, in the interest of the "bothsides"perspective she loves so much, have Noem and Leavitt explain in detail why this is necessary.
Very first attempts at a lino block print. Christmas cards. Hope my friends are understanding. 🙂 I liked it. Will try again.
Bike ride in Salem, Oregon yesterday: Minto Brown Island Park. I loved it so much it was on repeat today.
Had the extended family over for dinner before a funeral. Cooking for 30 was daunting so got 5 Costco chickens. Way too many leftovers so I made this: fresh parpadelle with prosciutto and peppers and rosemary and parmesan and green onion, topped with sliced cherry tomatoes and basil from the garden.
When life is too much to bear, make a big pot of sauce. Maybe a lasagna, too, if you can afford it. It doesn't get rid of fascism, but it fuels resistance, makes your taste buds happy, and fills your tummy right up. Sauce for Democracy lovers everywhere!
Salem, Oregon. Couldn't possibly get the whole crowd in one picture. And the hundreds of honking cars, too.
I know that no one's going to see this, but it's my 41st anniversary today. Today I also learned that my student loan payments have tripled and I live in fear that my Soc Sec and Medicare will disappear. Still, I am happy. There are some things that those motherfuckers just can't take away.
Don't put your glass of dental flipper cleaner next to your glass of soda when thinking about politics. That's all I'm gonna say.
Its so strange. This is a very dark day, and yet, this is what the sky looks like right now in the beautiful Willamette Valley in Oregon. I will take it as a promise of better days to come and a reminder that evil cannot endure.
You know what's wonderful? How a 24 hour trip to the Oregon Coast can feel like a week long vacation.
Merry Christmas from our beach rental on the wild surf side in Aptos, California. Nature will win.
Yes. I CAN paint. I just don't. At least, not very often. You should paint, though. That way, you won't have regrets when you are older.
Not sure if use of Sherwin Williams qualifies as art, but I wanted to share what I did on a whim a couple of years ago. Sadly, I am likely to move away in Summer and this will have to be painted over. Meanwhile...here it is. I call it "Old Lady with Ponytail on Bicycle."
Once, apparently, many years ago, I was a "respected boss." Life has dealt a sizeable demotion to me since then. These days, I'm just an ordinary schlub. My old lady advice is to enjoy the respect while you have it. It is far too brief a season.
This is a Big Tree in Calaveras Big Trees Park. It is between 1000 and 3000 years old, and it may remain forever. I post it for perspective. These next four years are a twinkling, and if we refuse to be afraid and grow no matter what, we also are the future. Be the Tree. And Happy Thanksgiving.
Colored pencil I did of my kid on the beach at Santa Margherita, Italy . This was the vacation I blew my life savings taking two years ago. Do I regret having no money now? I do. But, all the rest? Nah.
This cracker in my snack mix is what I'm aiming for psychologically right now. Finding one thing to smile about no matter how dire it seems.
I have been inspired by such illustrations all my life. Wish I had been one of the artists back then. Hence, my painting from last year. Mine is on a big ol' canvas and done in oil. Pure nature is awfully pretty.
When there were black red skies in Oregon during the wildfires, I dreamed of skies like this. I like the name Bluesky. It means something.
