Not sure why but my V&A search for a cat's eye ring also threw up this 1750-60 tile: 'A corpse, thrown into Elisha's grave, revives. 2 Kings 13:21. 21 'they put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet'.

🚨NEW RING TYPE FOUND!🚨 Just found a late 18th-centruy bequest for a 'cats eye ring', perhaps something like this later example. ca. 1850 cat's-eye chrysoberyl cut to show a bright line with the appearance of the eye of a cat. V&A

Green chrysoberyl cat's eye (a green stone) cut as a cabochon and set in a gold ring. This creates a line across the stone that looks a bit like a cats eye.

A stunning little bird sitting atop a log, with his bill open very wide as it sings. It has a bright yellow head and throat with brown eye markings, and patterns brown/light brown wings, with a ginger brown back which is also patterned. A very precious thing.

Brutal day yesterday so today: rings. I've struck gold in the will of Jane Tutchin, a London widow whose will was proved in 1665. Jane included 'A note of things in my Cyprus Box' - a nice example of the way that wills allow us to see inside spaces in the past that we can't usually look into.

well, I found out what an eyed agate ring is but I wish I hadn't V&A, 1680-1720

Gold ring set with an eyed agate in a border of diamond sparks. A spark also on each shoulder. The stone is whitish-brown on the outside, with a ring of white inside, and then another ring of brown and a black dot in the middle. The overall effect is that the ring seems to be looking at you.
