Middle-aged centrist mum. Spend my time reading, singing and being angry about stuff. Views my own (obviously).
Utterly sick of this shit. Yes, schools fucking were closed to the majority of kids. It almost broke me and my child (and literally killed several kids locked up with their abusers). Can we please not now pretend it didn’t happen for the sake of making whatever political point you think this is?
Temperature inside my house as of 7.30 this morning. This is fucking intolerable and anyone claiming ‘it’s just summer!!’ can fuck off.
This will be fucking intolerable in London and anyone who claims to enjoy it is nuts.
If anyone needs me I’ll be with my GIF of Ryan Gosling in glasses and a cardigan.
This might make more sense if the grammar system genuinely rewarded the brightest regardless of background. It doesn’t, as the wealthy tutor their kids from year 1-2 onwards, at a cost of many thousand of pounds, to ensure they pass. It’s a measure of privilege, not innate intelligence.
Should ‘young people’ (which let’s not forget includes under-13s, not just teenagers) have the autonomy to destroy their attention spans and be fed a diet of toxic misinformation? Clearly we also need youth clubs etc but they are the solution to a different problem.
There speaks a man who has no interest in fiction by women. Off the top of my head: Sarah Moss, Claire Kilroy, Margaret Drabble, Rachel Cusk, Holly Bourne, Jessica Stanley, Ashley Audrain, Milly Johnson, Maggie O’Farrell... Presumably they have escaped his Manly Notice.
Social media being toxic for adults as well is not a reason not to regulate it for kids.
Absolutely spot-on. It was clear at the time that the Johnson boys’ club was completely failing to consider the impact of its policies on women and children (which nearly broke some of us).
