In a marvelous confluence, my birthday directly overlaps Bandcamp Friday, so - in light of the continued enshittification of commercial streaming and how nobody is allowed to own anything anymore - I bought a couple albums on the day the money goes straight to the musicians. You should too!
In a sci-fi mood tonight. A bit of a palette cleanser after watching Alien Romulus. Really wish there was more of Scavengers Reign to enjoy, it’s such a weird and wonderful piece of art.
Happy Canada day, y'all. Have a moose. #AdventureGames #CanadaDay #GameDev
Been a few not-so-productive weeks but breaking through that creative block & getting some work done again finally. Still very light on detail, but I'm just glad to finally have some stuff started for Chapter 3. Also very happy with how this walk cycle came out. #ScreenshotSaturday #AdventureGames
Ba-dum tss Exactly at the mid-point of my walk, too. Truly impeccable.
Finally finished crit path scripting for chapter 2, so it’s back to polishing up some backgrounds. It’s amazing what a spit shone of the floor, a little grime on the walls, and some roughing-up of foreground elements can do to spruce up a scene.
Trying to use streaming services less, and serendipitously, found a big box in an office move full of CDs my wife and I had accumulated throughout High School and University, so it's been a nostalgic weekend of archiving CDs to use with my Jellyfin server to listen at home.
Pretty sure this space I stumbled across on my walk today is going to be the site of an optional miniboss fight eventually. I’m going to walk past and one of the Turks will be just standing there waiting.
It's very likely there's a more efficient way to do it, and I should revisit, but basically it copies the current character frame twice, once for the main body and once for the shadow, combines the two as a final sprite, then uses DynamicSprite.CopyTransparencyMask to trim away unwanted pixels.
My immensely talented 3D art polymath buddy and Level 0 NPCs co-Host Alex helped me really bring this scene to life. Got a little cleanup to do but so happy with how this turned out.
I hadn't seen #PointNClickFriday before, this is delightful! So much to wishlist. I suppose I should share screenshots from my own WIP adventure game that I've been tinkering away at in AGS over the past few months. No store page or anything, not for a long time yet if ever, but just for funsies.
Saw this and thought "Hey, I could use this!" So spent a few hours last night and this afternoon adding rim lighting as a feature to my own WIP game project. #ScreenshotSaturday
She’s so relaxed after tearing around the house and parkouring across the furniture with her tail puffed up for the preceding 10 minutes.
Thought I’d do the hipster indie dev thing and work on my project from a local cafe today but didn’t factor in sunlight.
This week I spent on more UI creation, mostly building a pause menu, since the addition of Save/Load naturally flowed in that direction. Another thing I love about solo dev is that when I start to get burnt out on one thing, there are a hundred other things I still have to do. #ScreenshotSaturday
Another #ScreenshotSaturday upon us. Crit path scripting for chapter 1 done, I focused this week on core systems like save/load & getting more animation done, but the tablet and stylus were calling me, so also did some work on the 1st screen of chapter 2, Angus’s prologue. #Gamedev #AdventureGames
Hotel lobby finished and implemented in game. With the completion of this room, crit path of Chapter 1, Beary's prologue story, is now fully playable, with the exception of a not-insignificant volume of rewrites and animation. #ScreenshotSaturday #AdventureGames #PixelArt
#ScreenshotSaturday has technically already come and gone but still getting a little work done from the couch today, working on background art in Procreate on my iPad. I’m no great artist, and it takes a long time for each piece, but they’re hand-crafted and it’s fun to build the skill.
One thing I enjoy about working on a project where I set all the goals and decide what to work on and when, is that sometimes you just want to do something pointless but interesting, like building a working analog wall clock instead of something that contributes to finishing. #ScreenshotSaturday
On my way back from the gym, one of my neighbors in randomishly complimented my weight loss progress over the last year. I don’t think we’ve ever spoken before. I get it when coworkers or friends being it up having been obese for like a decade but I guess it makes an impression even on strangers.
I must be getting old. I just started renting some extra storage space in my apartment building and I’m having a grand ol’ time just building storage racks, getting plastic storage boxes, and planning out how to make the best use of all the extra space.
