Ever since I first saw this comic, when I see a house centipede I giggle while envisioning a variety of shoes - and now I've shared the comic with kidlet so we can both giggle and save the little dudes from our cats together 🤣 #parenting

Merlin is singlehandedly responsible for me taking an accidental 2 mile hike once when I intended to walk to the end of the lake at the park at back. It was a slow 2 mile hike, but the tanager kept flying away and I wanted to see it, and by the time I did, I was on the other side of the park.

I now have a walker with wheels, & a seat! Mr. E immediately jumps onto that while I make my way down the hallway & maneuver around the kitchen/living room - he is most pleased to have a chariot. (Which, by the way, we have named Chairiette. Like Harriette. Except Chair.) *mentally skips away* 😂

During the day, goods and food vendors vied for attention with booming voices and noisemakers, people ferried between the few paying jobs or bartered with their peers, children squealed and chased each other around conversing adults and personal transport vehicles, and industrious creators seemed to swap melodies of varying whirrs and hisses of grinders, blowtorches, and impact wrenches.

It was a song of living, a soundtrack of and for folk who had learned to reuse and reshape what little they owned as needed, every one of whom relied on the goodwill of their neighbors to survive. Dred wouldn’t have it any other way, and the corps had another thing coming if they thought they’d crush this community’s spirit.

Both men stepped to a railing that overlooked the maker’s market and Dred leaned his elbows on the wrought iron and hardsteel. “Pass the word ‘round a bit, Xan. If they’re keeping more eyes open, we will too.”

“On it,” the young spy said. “Want Lin to pound circuits?”

“Ahead of you; she’s plugged in with her hacker protocols, been the better part of the week. Not much luck yet, but if we can see what their drones are seeing, that’ll make a big difference.” Dred sent him a sideways grin. “I suspect it’ll be a nice view of wide shoulders in desperate need of a massage and a butt that looks great in tight denim.”

Xandal snorted. “Ain’t always about you, Dred.”
