The Mario Maker checkpoint flag can sometimes produce mindboggling effects
Here's the Switch Block version of this trick, aka the version that's less prone to causing a softlock incident
This is a continuation of the 'hiding things in blocks' trick that I shared in here a few days ago. Because of my surprise that Mario Maker 2 just...lets you do this, and very easily at that.
Oh, now it's definitely not. (This is probably one of the biggest tricks to level making in Mario Maker 2. I've probably shared something like this on bsky before but I think this trick is at least partially responsible for extending the life of this game)
Some day I'm going to come across a level name on Mario Maker 2 that's named after one of those fake over-the-top rollercoasters you would see in a cartoon and the level will look similar to this.
It turns out that I actually haven't slowed down too much with Mario Maker 2, despite playing a few other games here and there. I've reached 40k courses cleared and I believe I'm only 10k courses away from possibly making it onto a leaderboard. I'm not sure of the exact number.
And the final castle has a twist on the numbered obstacle rooms in SMW Bowser's Castle.
I'm at the final stretch of the super world at this point and I was still wondering where to put this one on my list. This section right here gave me a good idea
Parabeetles and the Moon are a terrifying combination to see in a level
Making my way through a P-Balloon obstacle course that feels like a bunch of Warioware microgames
Continuing onto the second super world, here's a piranha plant bullet hell boss fight
Last clip from the first super world I played, here's some tricky platforming that involves a big spike ball
I save up all of my POW Block uses in this clip with some more fancy platforming
This room is built around a Pom Pom that's more of an obstacle to get around than a boss
I encountered and went through 2 crazy super worlds during some of my recent Mario Maker 2 sessions so I'm sharing some clips of them in here. First up is a cool trick that involves two screens that are right next to each other (but the other screen is hidden)
Enemy/object stacking is one of Mario Maker's coolest features. A lot of level makers tend to use it to replicate enemies that aren't in the game, but my favorite uses tend to be the simple ones that gives, say, a hammer bro a spiky helmet or a mount
If you attach enough fire bars to a block you can create a spinning sun. And there's also an Angry Sun here, because why not have two suns in the same place?
