As we approach the Vampire Lestat, I want to take this opportunity to say how vindicated I'll be if they do blood tears for Lestat's turning.

Lestat’s eyes aren’t open anymore. His tears are the only sign of life left.

Louis tears open his wrist and lets the blood fall on Lestat’s parted lips. He’s not moving, barely breathing. His throat bobs with a single swallow.

Relief so strong it feels like being struck by lightning as Lestat reaches up, eyes closed, and takes hold of Louis’s wrist. He’s still crying, drinking down the Dark Gift. Louis watches as the river of colorless tears starts to run red.

And then — the Vampire Lestat.

Hunter laughs and moves it out of Ilya’s reach, knocking it back in a single go. Ilya stares at that perfect jawline as Hunter’s throat bobs in a swallow.

Not to be outdone, Ilya takes Hunter’s still-glistening fingertips and brings them up to his mouth.

Ilya’s tongue has just touched Hunter’s middle finger when Hunter rips his hand away. “Jesus Christ, Rozanov,” he snaps, looking around the bar like a ref is going to pop up with a whistle. But that was straight guys for you. Ilya just laughs.

Ilya and Scott both learn a few things about the other.

It’s only half a second before it happens that Louis realizes what he’s about to see, and his breath catches. Lestat takes a step forward, and walks into the light, the sunshine lighting him up like an angel sent from heaven. Louis can’t breathe.

Grinning, Lestat looks back at Louis with absolutely no idea. “Bye, Louis,” he says, raising a hand.

Though still struck speechless, fighting hard to hold back tears of — joy, of wonder — Louis raises his hand in farewell. Lestat is human.

Lestat is human, and for the very first time, Louis thinks: I’m going to save you.
