This yellow-bellied sapsucker created these even lines of holes in the palm tree for dining purposes. This is my entry for the #BirdOfTheDay theme #TantalisingTextures - Smooth soft feathers of any bird contrasted with rough hard surfaces. #EastCoastKin #birds
For the #gulls theme today, here are some romantic western gulls from Cannon Beach Oregon. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
#SummerLovin involves feeding hungry fledglings. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
Three hungry starling chicks for the #Triplets theme of #BirdOfTheDay. #EastCoastKin #birds
This adorable tufted titmouse is quite the #ScreenFiller for today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme. #EastCoastKin #birds
This handsome hooded crow (a/k/a Danish Crow) was watching his fellow crows frolic in a field in Denmark. For the #Corvidae theme of #BirdOfTheDay. #EastCoastKin #birds
I caught this starling mid-song using his wings for emphasis. For Alan’s #SingersAndWingers theme of #BirdOfTheDay. #EastCoastKin #birds
A pink hibiscus bush is adorned with a spot-breasted oriole, for the #Birds&Flowers theme of #BirdOfTheDay. #EastCoastKin #birds
This great egret struck the #PerfectPose for me in #Miami. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
A double crested cormorant exercises its jaw in anticipation of its next big catch. For Rob’s alt theme, #OpenBeak, for #BirdOfTheDay. #EastCoastKin #birds

For the #UpAndDown theme, a make yellow warbler is searching for insects above. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin
This red-bellied woodpecker is a master #Contortionist. How is that position even possible?. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
Lady Cardinal wasn’t pleased to spot paparazzi ruining the privacy of her #BathTime. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
I spotted six odd birds swimming in dizzying tight circles in a pond in Cannon Beach Oregon recently. This Red necked phalarope is a #lifer for me, and uncommonly seen because they are rarely in contact with humans, spending most of their time at sea. #BirdOfTheDay #ECK
For the #Orange theme today, here is a spot-breasted oriole whose ancestors were introduced in #Miami several decades ago. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
There is lots of competition, but I judge the long-tailed tit as the cutest bird in my backyard in Denmark. For the #Cutie theme of #BirdOfTheDay. #EastCoastKin #birds
They nest in South Florida from January to May. Here is what their chicks look like:
Thanks! According to Google, the Latin name for the wood stork is Mycteria americana. The chicks have feathers on the necks and heads, but they are completely featherless on their upper necks and heads as adults. Here is another image
In flight, they are #Ebony&White. While perched, their black flight feathers are hidden and they appear #AllWhite. The gangly wood stork of #Wakodahatchee Wetlands, #Florida. #BirdOfTheDay #BirdsInFlight #EastCoastKin
How did I not know about #SquirrelSaturday until now? I love squirrels! This adorable red squirrel is harvesting hazelnuts while raindrops splash off its back. #EastCoastKin #Denmark #Wildlife
The #BirdOfTheDay theme is #WildMotion, Dynamic wildlife behaviour, freezing a second which is full of energy. This bluejay bathing vigorously with corvid attitude seems to fit. #EastCoastKin #birds
A mottled duck preening while surrounded by duckweed. #Quakers theme for #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
This moment in time seems to fit with the #QuietReflection theme of #BirdOfTheDay today. But the flamingo was actively preening. Birds are too busy to reflect on anything besides their next meal. #EastCoastKin
These grey-headed swamp hens look similar to purple gallinules, but are invasive to South Florida. However, they are a perfect fit for Rob’s theme #RedBeakFeetEyes. They have red feet that cannot be seen in this image. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #Wakodahatchee Wetlands.
Thank you Maryann! Even after the Robin bit the top off, the worm stayed rigid for a second.
The early bird gets the worm. But it’s still a struggle if the worm resists. An American Robin displays the #ArtOfSurvival on a lawn in Oregon. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
The #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestOfJune2026. I usually don’t post bird feeder photos, but this hawfinch is a #Lifer for me. He visited my feeders in Denmark only once so far. What a stunner. I hope he returns. It is perfectly named kernebider (kernel biter) in Danish. #EastCoastKin
The #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #LifelnTheBalance: precarious / unexpected bird positions. This purple gallinule is reaching for some yummy seeds while perched on reeds that barely support his weight. Circle B Bar Reserve, Central Florida. #EastCoastKin
