Mage: The Podcast
@magethepodcast
Reality is negotiable. A podcast for Mage: The Ascension. Learn the rules. Break the world.
Issue six of The Invisibles drops us into revolutionary France, where a Cypherman whispers: “Worship at this impure altar. Shrine of abomination.” King Mob may be violent, but history is the real assassin. We’ve spent millennia perfecting the art of doing worse.
No. 4 of The Invisibles begins part 1 of the Arcadia storyline. Morrison believed literariness & high concepts nearly killed the series, the truth may be that 1st 4 issues were comic book shop pre-orders boosting sales; after that, true number of purchases was revealed. I still love this arc.
First time I read Patrick Meaney’s Our Sentence Is Up, tore through it thinking, “Yeah, yeah, I already know this.” This time, I’m stopping every few paragraphs to think, “Huh. I hadn’t considered that.” Looking forward to speaking w/ Patrick. Join the conversation. magethepodcast.com/askpatrick/
Reading the fourth issue of The Invisibles, we say goodbye to Tom O’Bedlam. But I’ve read the series enough times to see the future. We’ll cross paths with Mad Tom again. #TheInvisibles #GrantMorrison
Rereading the 3rd issue of The Invisibles means meeting Tom O’Bedlam again. I’m fond of him. Sometimes I see him on the street. I never speak to him. Perhaps he’d show me the secret route out of the world. Perhaps he’d only ask for change. I’m not sure which possibility frightens me more.
Rereading The Invisibles #2 for our Reality Deviants Bookclub, I kept thinking: give this man thirty years and he’s not raving about extremely low-magnetic-field transmitters. He’s warning us that viral media is already inside the nervous system, rewriting reality one meme at a time.
Re-re-re-re-re-reading the first issue of The Invisibles for a forthcoming segment of our Reality Deviants Bookclub. What's hiding in plain sight in the first issue that you think most readers miss on their first read?

Does the Avatar Storm create useful pressure, or does it remove too much of Mage's cosmological freedom? This episode examines how to treat the Storm, Threat Null, and other major events as adjustable Storyteller tools. magethepodcast.com/metaplot-in-...
Reality Deviants Book Club goes deep this year: a multi-episode series on Grant Morrison's THE INVISIBLES! Psychedelic occult epic, unofficial Mage: The Ascension sourcebook, hypersigil in ink. Scholar interviews included. Coming later this year. Which side are you on? #TheInvisibles
Arash said the servers were cages for dead angels. His friends laughed, then brought fuel. He opened his palm and the djinn arrived like a second fire. The racks bloomed. Behind the glass, pale wings stirred once. Arash thought he had set something free. The djinn thought otherwise.
Maha learned to price everything: elections, droughts, coups, death. Tonight she prices her own heart. If the attack comes on schedule, the trust survives. She tells herself this is love, not surrender. But fate, once traded, becomes inventory.
Rebbe said stop. The guys in my DMs said drop the exploit. NSA noticed before I finished Mincha. I thought I was proving God. Instead I found a dead protocol under the world: Torah letters permuted into keys that open everything. If God is code, nobody’s maintaining it.
You wake before the alarm. Not because you sleep well. Because something inside you counts. The room is dark except for the blue pulse of someone's charger. Your cousin Beto snores on the mattress near the door. #chronicle
Captain Vittoria Sarti spun in the black with Enzo Velez and Pavel Rook, clawing for the cable before vacuum, radiation, and time devoured them. The ship’s mad AI had blown them out the lock. They fought to get back inside... only to see red eyes waiting in the corridor!
Tuyana Saran stood beneath the aurora borealis with her arms spread wide and fed their green fire into the old words. The modern world kept thinning itself into smoke, wire, and forgetting. She answered with older weather. Magic this ancient still remembered the earth.
They stood in the chamber watching the red blooms multiply across the map. Incidents, timestamps, threat levels. The old comfort was classification. But something in the numbers had turned. The world was no longer waiting to be managed. It was beginning to look back.
Malinalxóchitl drank the sacred bitterness to look beyond the veil, but dawn betrayed her. The higher world opened for an instant and then shut, leaving her pinned inside the ordinary street, unmoving in time, while the neighbors passed as if she were only air.
Dr. Adrian West trusted protocols more than prayer. X-01 lay strapped beneath the surgical halo, pale skin stitched to chrome. He raised the iPad like a grimoire and called her online. This time, he told himself, the machine would wake. Not like the others
Min-jae Park sat crosslegged beneath the dojo lights and across from him sat Chinedu Okafor. Each had come to prove his school the truer road. Their bodies were still as prayer but above them their souls went to war and the air itself learned fear.
Caio Valença of the Order of Hermes raised the sphere to read the future. But the glass gave back no tomorrow. Only the chantry, the hand, the eye, the breath. Room within room and now within now. When he understood it, he was nailed fast to the living instant.
Milena Vukovic checked her phone in the dark just once. A text. A link. She pressed it and something older than code came through, black and shining, with cold intent. The screen went green. The theater began to scream. She saw too late the virus was not made by men.
Today we begin the Work: Mage: The Ascension flash fiction, small grimoires disguised as posts. Read, steal fire, summon trouble. Tell us if these stories and their unruly characters find their way into your Chronicles.
Chicago in the rain. Ananda Voss, Euthanatos, came with the dead at his shoulder and the wheel turning in his blood. Julian Mercer came for the Technocracy with the future wired into his bones. Beneath the El they found the same truth and named it differently. Then the night broke.
