No. He didn’t plead guilty until his plea hearing. So the police had to gather enough evidence to convince the CPS they had a case. Had he plead innocent it would have been another two years wait, based on current waits for a court session.

Here’s the Met Office prediction for today (amber zone). The temperature doesn’t drop much but the RH is due to be much more variable and, importantly, lower. If it does hit the 40s that’s your “dry heat”.
Go back to the heat index. That temp and that RH has a heat index of 76. Very firmly in the red zone. That’s “heat stroke imminent”. Only when I was in the chamber, I could leave. I did no more than five minutes in those conditions. When outside is even hotter? There’s nowhere to go. 9/10
I used to get out of that chamber so fast. I’d need a glass of water and a rest before I toddled back to the office with my box of salts. Today, in the amber zone, it reached 38C outside, and an average RH of 83%. 8/10

On Friday a red Microlino parked up outside ours during the school run. A big bearded dude got out and fetched his kid(s). *Everyone* passing was cooing over the car. That man was clearly not so insecure in his masculinity that he needed to drive some cod military nonsense.

18/n The Year of the Rat by Harry Shukman. A year undercover in the British far right, this goes from small groups of lonely men in pubs through doorstep campaigns, a camping trip and far right influencers with self-proclaimed connections in high places. Grim but fascinating.
One story I love about Anthony Head is that he heard how badly James Marsters said “bollocks” and started tutoring him so that Spike’s accent wasn’t totally dreadful.
