Image shows two views of the Sun for apparent size comparison with white lines above and below to emphasise the difference of about 3% in apparent size. The left image is at perihelion and is larger than the right at aphelion. There are a large number of Sunspots on the left one and much fewer on the right. The first image was acquired on 2026 01 03, the latter on 2026 07 06. A pixel count confirmed the elliptical nature of our orbit around the Sun in agreement with established values to better than 0.1%.

The almost full Moon shing at 99% phase in a sky that looks black, although it was not completely dark. Along the terminator are numerous craters thrown into strong relief by shadows from a very low Sun. The rest of the Moon looks very much flatter due to the more direct light from a Sun that now appears, in the Moon's sky to be close to the Earth which would be showing a very slender crescent.
