#WorldCrocodileDay Here is a little preview of something that, I hope, will end up contributing to the conservation of my favorite species, the orinoco crocodile. looking forward to sharing more about this soon ;)
- Endangered Species Day - As I do every year, Ive tried to make a small contribution to this day: My favorite animal in the world, the critically endangered Caimán llanero (C. intermedius), a species to which I am determined to dedicate my life to conserve.
- Barinasuchus arveloi - Probably the last large Sebecidae to inhabit this world before the extinction of the family during late Miocene (Or even during early Pliocene if we take into consideration possible relict island populations in the Antilles).
- COMISSIONS - Although I have been making occasional commissions for years, I decided it was time to make it “official” with a fixed price guideline, open to anyone who wants to hire me.
- Bretesuchus bonapartei - A swarm of flies hover around the dragon's jaws, attracted by the smell of decaying flesh that accompanies him. The intense heat and the annoyance of the insistent insects, ends the patience of the old king.
- Doratodon ibericus - A *possible* sebecosuchian from the Sierra Perenchiza Formation (Campanian), Valencia. The presence of this genus in Europe during the Late Cretaceous represents a key element in tracing the early diversification chronology of Sebecosuchia.
The nearly complete skull of Dentaneosuchus was damaged during extraction, resulting in the scattering of material in the debris. Apparently, something very similar happened with Barinasuchus, an “almost complete” specimen that was destroyed during a road construction.
- Ogresuchus furatus - The oldest known sebecidae. Discovered less than half a meter from a titanosaur nest, it was approximately 1 meter in length. Humble beginnings for a lineage that would give rise to true monsters.
Finally everything is ready to reveal my project for this year: Ive decided to open a blog to continue talking about crocodilians and their extinct relatives. All my illustrations and knowledge on the subject will be uploaded there. Link in the first comment⬇️
- Godzilla (Gojirasuchus titanica) - Trying to have some fun, not everything has to be scientific illustration.
- Thilastikosuchus scutorectangularis - A recently described Candidodontidae notosuchian from the Early Cretaceous Quiricó Formation (Brazil) Based on the holotype (The articulated skeleton of a juvenile individual)
- Retymaijychampsa beckerorum A recently described proterochampsid archosauriform (Please note that I am not familiar with Proterochampsidae and therefore this sketch may be inaccurate)
- Asiatosuchus oenotriensis - Only two more illustrations left to complete the poster. Next one is Diplocynodon.
- Voay robustus - Commission I made for a very nice guy last week. If someone wants to commission me, Im open, as we say in Spain: Bueno, bonito y barato.
- Iberosuchus macrodon - (Or at least a conservative approximation of what it might look like given the fragmentary nature of the fossils). Looking forward to print and paint it to bring him to life. #sebecosuchia
This post reminded me of an old sketch I made quite some time ago about a hypothetical encounter between the two species. It never quite convinced me, but better to share it than to let it collect dust. #crocodylia
Lately I have been very interested in V. priscus and I have discovered the existence of this book, but it seems to be very outdated. Can anyone who has it confirm if it is worthwhile?
I don't know much about cattle, but while I was in the Venezuelan llanos looking for orinoco crocs, I saw these beautiful specimens that I'm sure you will appreciate more than me and know how to identify the breed to which they belong.
Today is my 24th birthday and I can say that it has been a rough year. Keeping on track is sometimes difficult but I keep striving to be better every day. Never lose sight of your goals, guys. Anyways, here's the gift from my gf @yeyaart.bsky.social , she made my day.
