I'm sorry for getting smart with you. I know that my place is firmly at the bottom of the food chain, so far down that I'm lucky to even interact with you at all. There is a reason I feel my breath hitch and hair stand on end when you like my posts or interact with me. It's because I know, deep down, that you are better than me. It almost feels wrong to even receive your attention, what business do you have with filth like me? Regardless, I'm SO thankful for every second of your presence that you grace me with. Let’s ensure everyone knows what this is about from the first couple sentences. Malice, I’m sorry.

I will never forget the pit in my stomach I feel when I think I may have transgressed against you. When you threatened to block me, when you so expertly interrogated me for my failings, all of them feel like they were yesterday. It’s not often in my life I come across someone who radiates such a genuine, unfiltered aura of superiority. You could ask those closest to me, of the times I panicked and squeaked whenever you show up in my notifications. It’s like I am being graced by the heavens, a close eye watching my every move and watching, waiting for me to slip up.

If I am ever so lucky to be acknowledged in the same breath as you, it’s clear to anyone watching that you are above me. In every way, shape, and form. We are not even fit to compare. You are on a level so far above me that it would be harmful for me to think I could achieve a tenth of what you are worth.

I’m sorry.

I’m sorry for inferring you might waste your time on me. I’m sorry for even speaking to you. I’m sorry for taking up space in your life, even if it exists only as a small number inside a little blue dot, as pixels on a screen clogging up your feed from more important people. I’m sorry.

You could allow the greatest authors thousands of years to try and string together the right words across every language that has graced this planet. They still wouldn’t be able to produce any apology that could classify as good enough. God knows I never will. I hope you might find some sliver of mercy for something as pitiful and pathetic as I am.
