Workingtonian in Liverpool(home)/Manchester(work), UK. Working on tools and processes for better building retrofit, mostly in houses, mostly for coops and community energy orgs. Keen on the need to #stopburningstuff.
I'm at this on Saturday. Come along if you want to here me rambling about participatory design and low impact building - or get involved in bread making and find out about community power: squashliverpool.co.uk/eco-open-day... And for more other great events in Liverpool check out liverboard.org
Just behind my cousin's place in Tipperary last night. But tell me again how more oil ans gas drilling is 'sensible', hyperscale data centres that guzzle water are 'the future' and it's 'not fair' to tax aviation and car fuel properly.
Everywhere you turn! Slievenamon in South Tipp is on fire too. Must be one of the wettest places in Europe normally. Not sure it was caused by a disposable BBQ, but I wouldn't be surprised. Currently quite worried about family who live round there.
As the second massive freight train in 10 minutes thunders past passengers on platform 14, while I wait for my delayed northern train home, I wonder if Andy B will finally give us the extra platforms we were promised and make the Ordsall Chord more useful.
The new buses are really good. Hope in the new regime everywhere in the country gets yellow electric buses. (Of course I'm sat above the driver on the front of the top deck, like a child).
Miatta the only person talking sense in this article. Also - I wish the idea of the 'Red Wall' would die. It's embarrassing and not useful - except maybe to public school boys who like playacting as sons of toil and using people in places like my home town as an excuse for daft opinions.
It was my aunt's dog's birthday yesterday. He'd been out in the wet and was wearing his towel wrap in the photo she sent of him. So my sister did this to it. Maybe the hobbits are a bit serious in their expressions for a birthday?
Went for a cuppa with my Dad in the new hotel on Whitehaven harbour at the weekend. Disappointed that no one tried to sell us any droids.
Friends and colleagues of mine are due to be on this next week. Hoping the TV people do all their hard work and expertise justice!
Google are proposing an inbox 'helper' that creates potentially infinite 'to do' lists from your emails, but without you being able to mark tasks as completed. That sounds like the actual definition of hell. www.theverge.com/news/857883/...
My folks would deffo be in that latter category. Their rescue spaniel Jess died just before xmas, having given them an excuse for exercise since 2017 and helped keep them sane in a pandemic. My mam volunteers at an animal rescue charity - they'd have tonnes of interesting data.
It's a wet Sunday, so I've spent the morning in Bootle at a @ipha.bsky.social Passive House open day visit - Daniel from DK Building letting us all have a nosy round his own home, where he's aiming for EnerPHit.
My partner described me being in small spaces doing air tightness taping as my 'happy place'. He might be right - feels nice to achieve something tangible. In this case was sorting out some of the holes in the mini loft above our bathroom. (That wallpaper is not visible normally).
Another Sunday after a small amount of light rain, another poo warning that means I can't go for a swim as originally planned. At least I know, thanks to the Surfers Against Sewage app: www.sas.org.uk/updates/real...
I know this station has not been open for quite as long, but the best part of two centuries later, that's the line I commute on.
Of course the flag to fly in Workington to demonstrate pride of place would actually be based on this cross.
Can also run to cheeky chappie with skillz, eclectic tastes, and a nice line in silks - also haunted by a ghost of sadness.
This is the kind of thing that made teenage me write 'nationalism is a created product' in silver pen over the badge on my reclaimed army shirt. Not the most sophisticated analysis - but it went with the heavy eyeliner and suited my mixed heritage.
Enjoyed some lovely music at Stoller Hall tonight with a good friend and am now legging it back to Liverpool before the crowds descend from Heaton Park.
Not sure the people in the stained glass would have approved of coops.
