August 1 marks 192 years of Emancipation. Burlington was the first city in the world to acclaim August as Emancipation Month, with thanks to Lisa and Dennis Scott founders of the Halton Black History Awareness Society for bringing learning, art, culture, music and remembrance to our city.

It was great to stop by Burlington’s Applemead Co-Operative Housing 40th Anniversary celebration in June, meet some of the original tenants and get my picture drawn in caricature! This is true community - people who come together, support each other and celebrate.

If you’ve swum in a pool in a hotel or a condo, it was likely built right here in Burlington by Service Plus Aquatics. I had an opportunity earlier this month to meet with the owner and staff, tour their newly opened facility and hear plans to expand custom built pools across Ontario and Canada.

I got to drop by Halton Bandology this week and see our young players in action. They were learning a new piece written by Canadian composer Lindsay Stetner from Saskatchewan! Welcome & thank you for the gift of music, those who teach music and the youth learning music!

Thank you to the residents of rural Ward 6 for inviting us to hear your concerns and suggestions for managing traffic speeding. Great to be joined by MPP Zee Hamid, Angelo Bentivegna, police and staff for a productive action-oriented conversation. More to come.

So many great activities happening in our city this weekend! Always a favourite for us train enthusiasts is the Burlington Model Railway Club public demonstration, 11-3pm. Sat. July 18, at 1137 Hidden Valley Road. Free, donations accepted.

Myself, city council and our staff remain committed to ensuring that community interests are protected in all that we do, that we provide transparent and accurate information to residents, and provide opportunities for your voice to be heard.

It was wonderful to meet Burlington resident and winner of Mrs. Toronto 2026 recently, Gunjan Shrivastva, and hear about her plans to use her platform to raise awareness and funds to respond to intimate partner violence.

Celebrating the Love, Jayne Foundation last night, with founder Sarah, board members, Rotary Club of Burlington Central, Burlington Community Foundation, sponsors like Nickel Brook and Ettridges balloon art, and everyone who has contributed.

Welcome Jersey Mike’s Subs to the family of businesses in Burlington - and for supporting Make a Wish Foundation. Seven Burlington children have had wishes granted, and 14 are waiting. We know wishes are medicine!

Looking for a unique opportunity to enjoy Burlington’s natural beauty while taking time for reflection? A Burlington resident and Certified Spiritual Director, Dena Hill, is hosting a Contemplative Celtic Prayer Walk at Paletta Lakefront Park on Wednesday, July 2, from 9 AM to noon.

It was an honour to join artist Donna Fratesi and Don Thorpe from the Burlington Historical Society for the donation of her painting to Pearl & Pine residence. It’s a rendering of what the corner of Pearl & Pine street looked like in the past and will now be displayed prominently.

The parade is back, a continuation of a legacy that started our music festival so many decades ago! Thanks to everyone who walked, marched, played and came out. Head to Spencer Smith Park for free music all weekend, plus rides, food, crafts and more!

Today we celebrated Black Music Month in Burlington with a proclamation and flag raising. There is a rich legacy of culture and music from Black residents. Thank you!! Thank you also to Bling Events International for organizing today’s event.

So grateful to the Seniors in our community for your wisdom, dedication and contribution to our community. We were joined this morning by members of our Seniors Advisory Committee to raise the flag and proclaim June as Seniors Month in Burlington.

Always great to start the weekend with good food, friends, volunteers and music! Thank you to Burlington Lions Club for serving, Subourbon Street Jazz Band for entertainment and everyone who came. Great to see familiar faces I’ve come to know over the years, and meet new people.

It was buckets full of smiles and sunshine when I dropped by Shifra Homes in Burlington recently to meet moms and their babies. Shifra is a maternity residence and shelter home, providing support, dignity and empowerment for young pregnant women to lead healthy successful lives.

Today we raised the flag and proclaimed June 2026 as Aphasia Awareness Month in Burlington. Approximately one in three individuals who have a stroke develop aphasia, is a loss of language. It often requires months of speech therapy to recover words.

We honoured and remembered those who fell and those who returned ever changed from the D-Day invasion on Juno Beach 82 years ago today, alongside a 101 year old veteran. They fought so our country could be free #wewillrememberthem

Today we gathered to say goodbye to a Canadian hero, a community builder, a father, grandfather, great grandfather and a dear friend. It has been my deep honour and privilege to know you. You always had a kind word of encouragement which I will cherish.
