Science fiction scribbling, horror loving, fantasy and crime consuming NHS herbivore bloke. Wrote a bit of film and book review guff over the years.
Quite the provocativeand periodically vicious anthology of noir ish crime vignettes. MIchel Simon as Maigret is the standout for sure…
Apparently they’ve been filming the new Batman film on the Runcorn Bridge, (Silver Jubilee Bridge) over the Mersey nearby these last couple of days… no sign of the Bat signal tonight though on my way home… Alas.
Nice to finally see a tidied up version of this earlier today. Enjoyed it thoroughly…
May qualify as the most spectacularly awful musical I have ever seen… a traumatic experience I wont easily forget
Another interstellar travelogue in which it is made apparent that Martians invented the mini-skirt…
Kick started the 50s science fiction cinema boom in the US and I’ve never seen it. Bonus feature. It has Woody Woodpecker in it and the very same technicolour spacesuits that would feature in Herge’s Tintin. Hard science fiction storytelling done right. great stuff.
Back to the Arrow Shaw Brothers boxsets with this un… Shaw Brothers training montages have never been bettered…
1sr rewatch since its release at the cinema… gearing up for The Odyssey. Whenever I can find a free IMAX seat…
I should probably be watching The Odyssey like every other sensible film fan but I am watching this instead. Je ne regrette rien!
Proper storytelling, posted here tonight for anyone willing to seek it out and pay attention. Don’t let the ‘one inch barrier’ put you off. It’s a properly engrossing thriller and the English language remake isn’t…
What better way to further avoid the apocalyptic Northern heatwave than with a science fiction pop-tastic musical like this slice of outrageously kitsch homegrown weirdness…
Hid in the cinema to escape the heat today and I am now, on reflection, not entirely sure what was the more uncomfortable experience…
Quite an acidic satirical swipe at the birth of America’s obsession with self-mythologising, via the art of showbiz… wildly under appreciated Robert Altman effort…
This week’s anime courtesy of @snipsmovies was a wacky Hamlet infused fantasy about revenge and forgiveness set in limbo… and very good fun it was too
It’s less about the stunning outfits and more about where she had them stashed… this is our resident Audrey… pride of place and all that…
Watching Charade again, which I love. This time on 4k, and wondering how Audrey Hepburn manages to complete a full Givenchy wardrobe change at least two or three times in the movie despite her character’s belongings having apparently been sold at the start of the movie…
Decided to post my favourite form of #physicalmedia cause it seems now is the time, given recent game related news, to start really, truly pushing back against the money greedy big corporations that seem intent on conditioning us to pay staggering sums of cash for thin air…
