Still playing with the @kingarthurbaking.bsky.social focaccia recipe. This time imagined as a rustic pizza with wild/volunteer tomatoes and herbs, and Asiago, Romano, and oil cured olives and sopressada. I’d not tried this sort of bake in an iron pan before.
The corporations running these labs should be under strict government control. If these technologies will be truly transformational, why leave them in private hands? Treat them as we did nuclear power or the Internet- both of which come out of government labs. Transparency and oversight.
There are quotes within the article that either of us could cherry-pick to support this or that position. It would become tedious. On balance, however, the analysis downplay the technical proficiency of that AI and focuses on garden variety engineering error, and how it was hyped.

Wind and rain. Much of the eastern shore is under flood watch today. It’s not only that the land is low, and the water table is high, but sustained winds from the west tend to push water in the bay to the bayside land of the eastern shore where it floods. It will remain stormy all day.

Patagonia’s IP attorneys are way out of line. They sued a tiny retail outlet on the Maryland Eastern shore for selling a tribute version of their logo with the tagline: “eastern shore pretty much flat as a pancake“. They hate their fans. They probably would’ve sued Andy Warhol were he alive today
A three hour tour. Wind from the S-SSW at 8-15kn. Sailed out of Deep Creek my usual- Half Moon Island. It’s a pretty wild place- just sandy beach and grasses. No people- only wind, water, and birds. I brought a tent, blanket, and book, but decided to practice sailing. Motored back into the wind.
This is the only way forward that doesn’t leave democracy looking like the guy laying on his back in my state flag. And my Dem leaders better get on it and stop talking about 2028 and 2030!
Took a little outing to a local island this afternoon. Sailed there, anchored off, walked around trying not to trouble the nesting birds, and motored home to my little ramp at sunset.
Ignore it, like Republicans Ohio ignored their own state Supreme Court in 2022 on the exact same issue. Look, I don’t like this either. But being a member of the only team that plays by the rules is beginning to sound a lot like being a member of the team that will always lose.
Meanwhile, in Louisiana and Republican states around the country which don’t bother to consult their voters.
Cloudy and cool today. Not my ideal weather for a day on the water. I think I’ve got a more secure mooring system worked out.
psst- in addition to terrapins, I often see Oyster Catchers. The bay is much healthier than it once was.
