For decades, the [US] Rust Belt's coal-fired power plants and steel mills emitted massive amounts of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. When these gases mix with water and oxygen in the atmosphere, they create acidic precipitation.

The Impact: Prevailing winds blew this toxic exhaust north, directly over Ontario and Quebec, damaging roughly half a million lakes and stripping away essential calcium from Canadian soils.The Solution: To stop this, the two nations signed the landmark U.S.-Canada Air Quality Agreement in 1991. Thanks to strict emission limits, this cross-border acid rain has drastically decreased.

The Chicago Bears are moving because the city and state wouldn't put up $ for a billionaire... the rich get richer by having others foot the bill. Illinois was right to say no, the priorities of the people need to come before the priorities of a billionaire who doesn't want to pay for their benefits

A single across the board rate for income tax would go a long way (In US and Canada) to ensure that everyone pays their fair share and is proportionate.

15% tax rate on $25,000 income is $3,750

15% tax rate on $1,500,000 income is $225,000

15% tax rate on $5,000,000 income is $750,000. yet they rich would say it's too much of their earnings - they worked hard to get that successful - as if everyone isn't working hard

It's all proportionate to people living marginally in poverty only earning $25,000 but paying $3,750.

Unfortunately both counties seem to have an upside down pyramid at the moment, punishing those who can least afford it, and can't afford tax lawyers and accountants to help them dodge the bill.

Martha Stewart served time in federal prison for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and lying to federal investigators regarding her suspicious sale of ImClone Systems stock in 2001.Although she was investigated for potential illegal insider trading, prosecutors ultimately could not secure an insider trading conviction. Instead, the charges and conviction stemmed from Stewart and her stockbroker altering documents and fabricating a cover story about a pre-arranged stock agreement to mislead the SEC and FBI during their investigation.

Trump will soon be raging on about how NATO needs to spend more. He continually fails to grasp it is not about who spends more $$, it is about spending based on overall GDP. The US has the greatest GDP of all nations, so spends the most $$, but isn't the top spender when based on overall GDP.

In cash terms however, the US is still by far the single biggest spender on defence, spending about $980bn (£720bn) last year, which was 60% of the Nato total.

The US is a global superpower, with military commitments around the world, not just to Nato. It had GDP greater than all the rest of the members of Nato put together in 2025.

US defence spending has come down from 3.6% of GDP in 2020 to an estimated 3.2% in 2025.

Defence spending by the rest of NATO - Canada and the European members - has gone up from 1.7% of combined GDP in 2020 to an estimated 2.3% in 2025.

Politicians will post black-and-white photos of the 1990 signing. They'll wave the ADA like a trophy in one hand and cut it with the other, through Medicaid work requirements, a DOJ opinion inviting states to reinstitutionalize disabled people, and cuts to the home care that lets people like me live outside a facility at all. They're counting on the celebration to cover the sound.

This Disability Pride Month, I'm not interested in the party. I wrote about what pride actually means when a government is busy reattaching the shame you spent your whole life putting down, and why the only honest response is to refuse it out loud.

Five hundred volunteers in Montana just did what most thought was impossible—they forced a vote on banning dark money in state elections onto the November ballot.

Initiative I-194 is the breakthrough. It works like this: states create corporations, and states decide what powers those corporations get. Montana voters will now decide whether spending in elections is one of them.

The volunteer campaign fanned out across all 56 Montana counties in 13 weeks and came back with nearly 50,000 signatures—they only needed 30,121. Jeff Mangan, who led the campaign, didn’t mince words: “To the out-of-state corporate interests trying to spread disinformation: look at the power of this volunteer army. That is what grassroots democracy looks like.”

Seventy-four percent of Montana voters support I-194—including majorities of Republicans and independents. Hawaii already showed it can be done by passing a similar measure last month. Now Montana gets to vote.

Some questioned whether the call even happened as described. Author and Iran expert Hooman Majd, who has written extensively about the country and served as an informal interpreter for past Iranian presidents, flatly disputed the premise. "President Trump did not speak with an Iranian official and say anything of the sort directly to him," Majd wrote. He then floated a mocking theory about how Trump might be staging these confrontations: "Is it possible the WH staff has arranged for a Persian-accented staffer to man a phone for Trump to call whenever he wants to yell at an 'Iranian official'?"

The forced transfers have drawn international condemnation. In March 2023, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his children’s rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova, charging them with the illegal abduction and deportation of minors from occupied Ukrainian territories.

Earlier this year, the U.S. State Department discontinued funding for the HRL project that tracked these deportations. The Washington Post said this decision may have put at risk an archive of data on some 30,000 affected children.

US border officers CBP threatening #Canadians with charges for not providing DNA when crossing the border is NOT very neighborly.

CBP did not respond to an interview request, but a 2025 directive says the border agency “collects DNA samples and accompanying biographical data for submission to [the DOJ/FBI Combined DNA Index System] from all persons arrested on federal criminal charges and from aliens in CBP custody who are subject to fingerprinting.” It also says CBP “may refer persons who fail to cooperate in the collection of a DNA sample for prosecution.”

However, the guidance says DNA collection does not apply to “[a]liens lawfully in or being processed for lawful admission into the United States” or those held at a point of entry “during consideration of admissibility, and not subject to further detention or proceedings

Four, “lemon” style remedies. Repeated failures of the product after repair, leaving the product out of service too often, or defects that substantially impair use, value, or safety, or repeated inability to cure the defects after reasonable attempts, would trigger lemon-style remedies.

Five, fraud/ negligent representation. If a plaintiff could prove the seller knowingly or recklessly made false claims, fraud could apply. This is a harder claim to satisfy, but would potentially be in play if performance representations were made without an adequate basis.
